Choose between Cactus & Plantain Tacos at Wahaca!

I've picked this particular Wahaca venue because it has a great view of the Thames and is delightfully quirky, being constructed from shipping containers.

Wahaca don't "do" reservations so this will be a turn-up and possibly wait a while meet. I frequently eat around Southbank though and waits are not usually very long, and there is often something to be entertained by nearby.

I've set this for Friday evening as it was the more popular choice of those answering the RSVP question. End of the working-week taco's it is :-)

GF Menu

Not only Tacos . . .take a look here -  Menu

They sometimes have daily specials which are GF too. I love the way the servers carry around little post-its with their specials on which they just pin to your regular menu (or in our case, or regular GF menus)

“Wahaca’s South Bank Experiment combines two of favourite things- views of the Thames & Mexican food (gluten free!). It’s a real experience visiting this quirky branch of Wahaca (they have several around London) which is built out of recycled shipping containers with huge windows looking out onto the Thames.”

“this has consistently happened every time I have eaten there it means, and this is the ABSOLUTE golden rule for a chain establishment, that the staff have been well trained. There has been a moment, a directive, part of the training, where gluten free/ coeliacs has been discussed and they have taught every member of wait staff what is gluten free and what isn't. The peace of mind that that gives you is invaluable.”

"There’s also a fantastically detailed explanation of how they prepare gluten-free options (possibly the best I’ve seen anywhere) that leaves you in absolutely no doubt what’s safe to eat and provides a reassuring sense of confidence that your food will be prepared with care"

Company was great, super to see you all, and Vikki, do post a picture of that amazing pavlova! :-)

Shame there weren't any actual cactus corn or plaintain tacos at this particular Wahaca, which is a little different to the others (the experimental one) BUT this led to me enjoyed a great lasagne made with corn tacos and saved room for caramel ice-cream.

Queuing time was minimal, food delivery time curiously eccentric, but at least we didn't get charged for the umpteen wines that we didn't order but were periodically offered!

Oki doki everyone, some details for Friday - This place isn't difficult to find, but you do have to walk to the riverfront and then right up to Waterloo bridge until you see it. Since it is made from shipping containers . . . it is unmissable once in view.

Since booking a table isn't possible, I'll simply be going in at 1800 and asking for a table or tables for however many people we have RSVP = Yes

The more folks we have, the longer we may need to wait, so please do update your RSVP early if you won't make it.

When we get seated, I will place on the table a MeetUp sign and cell signal permitting, post here with our table location since this venue has 2 floors - this so folks arriving a little later than 1800 can find us.

Since we may be a large-ish group, I plan to ask our host/hostess to track our orders separately so we can pay individually.

Hello, I normally work until 18.00, but I will sneak out of work a little earlier on Friday. Still, I'll probably be about 15 mins late. Liane

Would you like to join us anyway Caroline? I expect after we make it in, we'll maybe end up ordering by 1815, food by 1830. You could order via me if you want and I'll save you a place. Otherwise, next time :-)

Okay folks, as promised I am switching the day to Friday rather than Saturday, since Friday is sustained as the more popular choice. Please do update your RSVPs if you need to!

    March 8, 2014

  • Ben R.

Heya folks, the 4 people who have answered the question "Friday or Saturday?" when RSVP-ing have all chosen Friday. That is 4 out of 8 with no-one preferring Saturday so it is highly likely that I'll be changing this to Friday to accommodate that preference.

I'll apply the date change this coming week, short of a major turn-around :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
