Whenever I have wanted to go to a GIG meeting, I usually just ask for the extra info on here or write to one of the GIG leaders. When I have gone into the hospital, I went to the information desk by the front door and they have been able to direct me.
But again, this is just a courtesy announcement for a meeting that we aren't affiliated with directly.
I'm with you... I would've felt bad arriving empty handed too to a potluck. I know, I know... people say it's fine but I would still be thinking about it the whole time I was there. haha.
It might not do the GIG group much good to invest in writing a detailed FAQ about where the group is being held until they find out if they are going to continue meeting at that location.
Besides, I'm rarely in the know with these GIG things... I usually rely on my favorite Jill of all trades who always seems to be in the know... Barbara Pugh.
Hope you get to feeling better real quick Barbara. :)

Hi Angela,Thank you for clearing this up. I may, in the future, be interested in volunteering to do the updates. However, even the GIG site's directions were somewhat vague. When I looked online for a map of Legacy, I did find one, but there were several buildings labeled Medical Office Building (which I assume is what was meant by room MOB) and three parking structures. Too little information for me to find my way this morning around a hospital I have never been to, and I hadn't prepared a dish either and don't like showing up to anything unprepared.
I suppose I will "get my feet wet" with another, better explained, activity that this group hosts. I would be interested in other potlucks, perhaps based on a theme. Once I met some of the group, I may open up my house to host something. I'll look for another event to attend of this group.
Hi Vicki,This is the Gluten Free PDX meetup group separate from GIG. We just put the GIG reminder on our group as a courtesy. I of course would love for there to be more detailed information on the courtesy reminder about each meeting but Lisa Shaver who runs the GIG meeting is a very busy gal.
Hope you'll get a chance to get to the meeting. If you go and end up liking it and wanting to attend regularly. Would you be able to update the page monthly? I'm hoping to find someone who can?
Would anyone else be able to attempt this?
I don't attend the GIG meeting on a regular basis. I average about 1 meeting every couple years. I have run a support group for something on the same day of the month each month as the GIG meeting so I'm a little disconnected from the GIG meetings unfortunately.
I just went to the link and read all the details. So, I guess my point is to do a snap shot of the details for the meetup page, so as to attract new folks who aren't familiar with this group. Otherwise, it is just like a calendar reminder on meetup for those who are already involved.
Actually, for someone new, who has never been to one of these meetings, I think there is far too little information given on this meetup. When I just looked up the address given, I see that this is a huge complex and I don't want to spend my Saturday morning wandering around looking for this meetup. I think specific location with directions once in the complex would be helpful, and also an agenda of some sort. Or, if it is just a brainstorming session of sharing recipes then just that could be stated. Something more than a link to a web site and an unexplained acronym will inform those of us that are new to the group and perhaps attract more. I'll give it a shot again, if more information becomes available.
Kennedy, are you still going?
I'm willing to come check it out, but it would be helpful to have a short description of what is happening. Also, is there a room number or something? I envision wandering through a hospital asking where this group is meeting. Well, I'll try anyway.
I'm not going to be able to come this morning either!! A friend has to move from 11-3 and I'll be helping her. Sorry sorry! Looking forward to coming soon!
I have a bad cold, I will try to come, but it will depend how I feel and I don't really want to share my germs. If anyone doesn't already know. It is a Thanksgiving potluck this week., no time to cook, bring a drink.

Does anyone want to try to host a lunch after the GIG meeting?
I'll post it as a suggested event in the hopes that there will be an event host. We're going to be super busy this weekend.
