Probably when it was announced to the world in 2009. I try to follow news about programming languages in general and I remember thinking "ok, Rob Pike did this, I should check it out".
Took me a while to actually install the compiler. Wasn't until last year when I saw it was finally packaged in Debian. I wrote a little program just to play with channels.
No, but it would be very fun to write a service at Spotify in Go. I know we have a few Go fans in the company that would like to do it.
I liked the first class channels in the beginning, but after a while I realized there was more to this language than just that. Since I haven't worked with it a lot, I don't know how a growing code base of go code will feel like, but I am guessing I would like the type system a lot.
Developer at Spotify. Coding mostly python these days. Go looks very interesting though.
