Where are the proceeds going? 100% of the proceeds of the weekend are going to charity. Tracks had an incredible history of giving back to the community over the years and gave thousands upon thousands to charities. Virtually any not-for-profit that came our way Tracks helped raise money. In that light, we framed out charity choices around who went to Tracks and whom we saw outside of Tracks while standing in line. Our first choice was the House of Ruth as they help homeless women and children. You may have seen homeless women and children on the street while walking from your car to the club on any give night, so we felt that this was an appropriate charity. We also had a large African American following on Sundays, Wednesdays, and the last Tuesday of the month for Women’s Night. We felt it only appropriate to give to the Mautner Project (women) and Us Helping Us (African American men with HIV). Further, we selected Whitman Walker (HIV education and substance abuse) and SMYAL (education and bullying) to align with our Saturday crowd and youth in general. We also selected the Metropolis Fund (which raises funds to support local and national AIDS causes, started by Dr. Moody Mustafa who helped so many during and after the AIDS crisis). Our fiscal agent is the DC Center (local lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community center for the Metro DC) and also a beneficiary. We lost so many to this tragic disease and to substance abuse that these charities’ missions aligned with what we felt would continue to help the DC community.
How did we select the venues and talent? Of course, we all wish we could dance one more time under the big mirror ball, or play volleyball outside listening to great music, or be in the video room smashed together with Jay serving $3 pitchers, but sadly Tracks as it once existed at 1st and M Streets is now an office building. DC 9 offered its venue because it's owners were regulars at Tracks and completely embraced our mission. The owners of Town also offered their venue as they got their start at Tracks. Most of the talent involved is part of the reunion committee and each person was delighted to be a part of honoring the legacy of Tracks by volunteering their time. We are very fortunate to have DC 9 and Town as hosts for the reunion and we thank them and hope you do as well. With no seed money we were lucky to have them be so generous.
How can I volunteer memorabilia or photos? Please visit TracksDC.com and initiate contact to find out how to donate to our memorabilia display or slide show.
We sincerely hope you are able to find what you are looking for at The Tracks Reunion as it was a long process for those of us involved in creating it and though we are sure that it may not fulfill everyone's greatest wishes for such an event, please know that we loved Tracks as much as you and we attempted in every way possible to make this event as fabulous as all of our memories of Tracks are.
