22 Mi (demi) off road fast quickie. Leif Erikson Rd.

This will be a fast pace (but not race pace) 22 mi. out and back on Leif.  Bring a mountain bike, a cyclocross bike or road bike with fat tires and good bike handling skills.   Not a beginner ride.  (We'll do a beginner Leif later in the year.  I"m trying to work something out with FTF in that regard).  No post-ride social this time.   It's ride and home.

Pace: ~14-18 mph on the flats, but remember, this is off road, so that's a pretty fast pace.

Start Time: We leave at 9AM sharp so please plan accordingly.  We honor those who arrange their schedule to be on time.

Distance: 22 miles

Hills: Some rollers.

Attitude: We will be moving along with no long breaks.  We will regroup at Leif/Saltzman, Leif/Germantown and Leif/Saltzman.

Traffic: Joggers, mountain bikers, hikers, strollers, but no cars. .

Group Ride, but please be comfortable with continuous riding with no long breaks.  It is just too cold outside to stand around for very long.

Ride Leader: Edward Lanton[masked], [masked] Please call or email with any questions.

Weather Cancellation Policy: We ride.  End of story.

Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request.

Always bring plenty of water, snacks for energy, a flat repair kit, including a spare tube.  A tool kit and small pump is good, but if you don’t have one there is usually someone on a group ride who does.  Carry a credit card and a little cash to buy refreshments.

Mandatory for all riders.

Watch for hikers, runners, strollers, etc.  Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road.  Please represent us well.

All riders must have their rides in good working order and must bring a flat kit & spare tube on all rides. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride. We will try to help!

All riders must be able to change a flat should they have one or have a way to get picked up (AAA, a friend…). There is often but not always someone on the ride who knows how to help you change your tire so plan accordingly.

Note: Your RSVP signifies that you agree to the following. Organizers, event hosts and other participants will not be held responsible for any individual at any event. Each rider rides at their own risk and is solely responsible for any damage to their equipment or themselves.

Final Note: RSVP’s cannot include a +1 or Guest. If you choose to bring a friend or family member, they themselves must sign up as a member of NumBumz.

OK. I won't gloat. But getting to ride on a very rideable but sometimes bumpy road without any vehicular traffic through a brooding, fog shrouded forest with occasional, spectacular views of Portland was really something not be missed. It was a fast ride, though. As I said, I am trying to work out a beginner ride on Leif sometime in the next few months. If you've not done this ride, all I can say is that it's a real PDX gem. Thanks, Robert, for pushing the pace whenever I would start to flag and for making this such an enjoyable ride; not to mention finding my fender and glove (long story)
