Monster Cookie Metric Century - 62 miles

The ride :

This is an Cycling event. Not a NumBumz group ride. However, it would be great fun to ride together as a group. You must pre-register with the event (See Below)! I'll post a link when its available.

Monster Cookie Metric Century
Sunday, April 27, 2014

The Monster Cookie Metric Century Bicycle Ride is the Salem Bicycle Club's premier spring event. The ride starts at the State Capitol Mall in Salem and takes riders over back roads to Champoeg State Park and back to Salem. The ride is open to all bicyclists who agree to Share the Road with other users by riding safely, lawfully, and courteously. Each participant must wear a helmet that meets CPSC requirements.

The route is generally flat with a few short hills. The map of the route offers a preview of the ride. GPS users candownload a track of the route. Snacks, fruit, refreshments, and toilet facilities are available at a rest stop and at Champoeg State Park. The route will close at 4:00 p.m. Participants should pace themselves so that they can complete the ride by that time.

The first Monster Cookie Metric Century was held in 1977. To learn about that inaugural ride, read Monster Cookie Nostalgia. More than 1,800 cyclists participated in the 37rd annual Monster Cookie Metric Century held on April 28, 2013.

Distance 62 miles

Start Time – wheels rolling at 8:00 am – 7:45 am meet & greet – Call Patricia if running late[masked]-0765.

Ride leader contact information – Cell is[masked] or email: [masked]

Rider requirements - Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request. Always bring plenty of water, snacks for energy, a flat repair kit, including a spare tube, a tool kit, and small pump. This is a daytime ride so working lights are not mandatory, but are recommended.

If you are joining the group for the post-ride social, bring a lock. Carry a credit card, cell phone and a little cash to buy refreshments. Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road. Please represent us well.

Note: Your RSVP signifies that you agree to the following. Organizers, event hosts and other participants will not be held responsible for any individual at any event. Each rider rides at their own risk and is solely responsible for any damage to their equipment or themselves.

Final Note: RSVP’s cannot include a +1 or Guest. If you choose to bring a friend or family member, they themselves must sign up as a member of NumBumz.

I had a good time. Thank goodness for good rain gear. It was a little bit of a stretch for my endurance but I learned a lot.

Aside from the early downpour out of the gate and three near disastrous wrong turns we toughed it out and managed to turn a bummer into a stunner, even with the bridge crossing - the best part of going rogue at the finish. Thanks to Julian, Lisa, Jason and Cam for setting a blistering pace and keeping us on track. Let's hope next year we'll see some blue skies and sunshine all day. The warm clam chowder at Newport Bay was the best part of the day!!

Great Route, ect. on the wet and windy with nice warm Sunbreaks. Few rollers, couple hills, and the rest flat. Beautiful course, 1 plot of land had several different Spring flowers. The farmlands you pass thru are great, especially seeing the Hops growing, for our wonderful beer we consume. Overall will do it again but in better weather.

FYI - I'm doing a shorten route. I am riding to the first rest stop (which is also the 3rd rest stop), and compelling the route (returning from there). In other words I am riding 37 miles. Skipping the 2nd stop.

Going to swim and spin tomorrow, where it's likely going to be drier and probably won't have a head wind. Have fun!

Are you guys meeting @ Gilgamesh Brewery and Restaurant after the ride? The nice thing about the Ram is they have gotten use to many riders and there is good parking in the area. :)

Put me down as a tentative to meet up with everyone. Planning to do the full century with Ed. But if the weather keeps up, I may do the shorter ride.

I went in search of a Brewery in Salem and of course there is Ram Brewery but came across a Brewery called Gilgamesh Brewery and Restaurant owned by 3 brothers. Building made of wood and metal, patio out back with a creek running thru the property. I thought would be a great social after the ride.

After a splendid Easter weekend Gorge ride with Jan, it's time to kick it up a notch and I couldn't think of a better way than to take on this ride, however I'd like to ride share with someone who has an extra rack for the start at 8am. I live in Beaverton central or can meet you at Fred Meyers or a designated location early in the morning, and pitch in for some gas money. Call or text me,[masked], thanks Michael

Just in case if nobody has done an event ride everybody does there own pace, even though it's posted under NumBunz. If there are folks that want to stay together that's great too. If you haven't already registered it's closed and you will have to register at the event which opens at 8:00 for registering. Would like to get started as close to 8:00 as possible. Route closes as 4:00.

I'm looking to bike-share to Salem on Sunday morning coming out of Beaverton Central near Allen. If you have an open rack, I'd appreciate it and can pitch in for some gas. BONUS: I'll feature you in my post MCMC video. Call or text me,[masked]-1259. Thanks a bunch

Had a great time on this ride last year. I managed to turn this 62 mile ride onto a 80+ mile ride with one small wrong turn!

Did some research and found out you don't have to do the full Metric. You do the first 15 miles then turn around and complete 30 miles instead of the full 62. Just wanted to let you know if you aren't up to do the full 62 miles but still want to do this event.
