Announcing a new Meetup for "New Friends to Explore SD With!"!
What: Geminid Meteor Shower
When: December 13,[masked]:00 PM
Tierra del Sol Observatory
Tierra de Luna Road
Tierra del Sol, CA 91905
We can expect to see a hundred meteors an hour. That's if you are laying on your back watching the sky. We will have access to a 22" telescope and room to set up personal telescopes. We can see Jupiter, galaxies and nebulae, with the telescope. Llyod will be showing different parts of the sky till later in the evening
This is at the Tierra del Sol Observatory. Detailed directions are on their site, sdaa.org. Detailed directions are necessary, since it's in the middle of nowhere and dark. There is plenty of parking, a heated room to warm up in, bathrooms, and electrical hookups for portable telescopes and computers.
SDAA members will likely be there all night and allow people to stay. There is parking for campers, but no hookups for campers. There are a few conveniences, like a microwave and coffee machine. If you want to use these, bring what you need, coffee, water, cups, cream sugar...
In order to make the most of this, you should bring a lawn chair and a sleeping bag. You should expect it to be very cold.
Want to carpool? check this forum: http://www.meetup.com/Geeky-San-Diego/messages/boards/thread/8192715
I'd also like to thank Llyod who is a SDAA member who has gotten us access to the SDAA Telescope!! http://www.meetup.com/members/9460412/
