Climb Outdoors: Great Falls!

Join us for a another awesome outing partnering our Meetup with the new Vertical Rock Outdoor School for an fantastic day of climbing out at Great Falls! This beautiful crag sits right alongside the Potomac River in Great Falls National park with stunning scenery and many different routes of all skill varieties.

The details:

Cost: The gym is providing the meetup with a generous discount, so your overall cost for the day will be $40. (Generally, these sorts of guided climbs can run upwards of $100!) What does the money get you? Harness, helmet, and shoe rental as well as personalized attention from a VROS guide who will set up all the ropes, run all the safety tests, and belay you to your heart's content. Plus coffee & donuts. There's an additional fee of $5 per car to enter the park itself.

The timing: Plan on arriving at the gym around 8:30 -- we roll out at 9:00 with or without you, and hopefully will climb until about 1:00. Pack a bagged lunch, plenty of snacks, and water.

Who can climb: You must be at least 7 years old, but outside of that, no experience necessary! The guides will tailor what routes they set to the skill level of the group so beginner routes for beginners and more interesting challenges for more experienced climbers. Be advised that there may be some rappelling necessary -- a skill that our guides will happily teach you.

We do need a minimum of 6 climbers (NOT COUNTING ME) to run this event.

Sorry to cancel. I see that we don't have enough people to run the class. I'm going to sign up for a marathon training program, and it is on Saturdays. :(

Well, in the past people have waited to the last minute to RSVP, and we have a week left, so it may still run!

I'm really bummed. The marathon program runs through October, and that is the first day. I hope you get enough people. It sounds like a great time.

I can ask, but we're already getting a HUGE discount from what the gym normally charges.

It doesn't look like we'll get an additional discount for gear...but I really hope you can make it out anyway.

Laurie, hopefully we will get a few more to go. my son & I are looking fwd to it. Ive asked a few times if Ian could set up an outdoor rappel trip - has your group ever scheduled those (or just primarily climbing?). GF looks like a great spot for both.

If we don't get the minimum required, I'd be up for another date in June, Jul, or Aug.

Same for the Carderock Trip. I wrote in to Lee the other day to ask if they could organize a waterfall rappel (waterfall abseiling) have you ever tried this? would you want to?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
