Alamere Falls hike

NOTE: The last portion of this walk is a very steep, very narrow trail down to the beach at Alamere Falls.  The end of the trail requires using a rope to scramble down a sheer drop to the beach.  For this reason I am restricting this to 20 people.  To avoid no-shows I will be charging $5 for this event which I will put towards the dinner at The Pelican Inn after the event.  As with all my events all attendees come AT THEIR OWN RISK!

Directions/meeting point: (the meetup.com directions linked above are not always reliable) the meeting point will be at the entrance to Palomirin trailhead at the end of Mesa Rd in Bolinas (NOTE: The last 1.5 miles or so is NOT PAVED) .   I'd recommend using this link to find our meeting point.  I will be driving my Silver Subaru Impreza WRX, license plate ending in 468.   I'll be wearing this black Sanzaru Games hoodie. I'll send out my cell to RSVPs (but as always there is no guarantee of reception)

This week we'll be hiking the coastal trail to Alamere Falls. It is an amazing hike along the Pacific to Alamere Falls, where Alamere Creek drops down to the sea.  The hike is a little over 8 miles and fairly flat other than the last 1/2 mile or so which is very steep (see note above!).  See trail map here for more details.  Hopefully the weather will be good, but be prepared for rain and mud.  Also be sure to avoid Poison Oak, which can be found on most bay area trails.

If anyone wants to carpool, I'll be driving up from the Alamo Square district of San Francisco.

Dogs are not allowed on this trail unfortunately.  After the hike we'll be heading to the Pelican Inn in Muir Beach, the $5 fee for this hike will be put towards the check for the meal.

Hello, I'm new in your group and new in San Francisco. I traveled for two weeks to Stinson Beach and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of nature and the coast. In Germany we don't have such coast. I would like to enjoy this great tour but unfortunately I don't have car here. Could somebody pick me up from San Francisco or a place near San Francisco?
Or is there a possibility to arrive the meeting by public transport?

Just a reminder tomorrow (Friday) is the last day I will issue refunds. The event is now full and more people want to come but it is not fair to expect them to make their plans at short notice. If you do change your mind about coming, be sure to email me your paypal email after you change your RSVP so I can send the refund (as meetup doesn't tell me which member goes with which paypal email)

I'm so sorry to say that I won't be able to join you today. I got called into work. I'm sorry for the late notice. My friend won't be going either. Please keep the 10 as my contribution to your dinner. I look forward to hiking with you in the future.
      Regards,
      Terri

I am sorry to cancel so late, but I have been under the weather all weekend, and I am not sure I can even hike down my street right now.
I just moved here and look forward to joining future Meetups.

    Hello!
Excuse me for a possibly silly question, but is this hike a round trip of about 8 miles, one way, or a doubly-long round trip?
Sorry - I'm sure your way of naming things will become obvious, but I'm not sure coming in fresh!

    April 7, 2013

  • Gareth M.

And yes the start time is still noon, as before. Didn't catch that first time round.

Somehow this event was set to "members can change" and someone thought it would be funny to edit it. They've been blocked and the changes reverted.

I new something like that happened since in the emails about the changes said "sedrick vanisi" made the changes... but is the time gonna change back to noon? I'm going either way just want it clarified.

I didn't change this hike's date! No idea how that happened, this is happening on the 14th as planned.

You change an event that is a week away to the same day w/ 2 hours notice? That is ridiculous.

Agreed. I'm away for the weekend so can't make it. Assume we'll get the fees paid back given the late change too?

How do you get back up? Do you have to climb the rope?

    March 23, 2013

    • Gareth M.

Yes, but its only the last few feet you need to use the rope.
