Wildcat Canyon hike

Directions/meeting point:(the meetup.com directions linked above are not always reliable, use these details to find the start of the hike) We'll meet at the Rifle Range Road entrance to Wildcat Canyon in El Cerrito.  I will be driving my Silver Subaru Impreza WRX, license plate ending in 468.   I'll be wearing this black Sanzaru Games hoodie (if it's not too hot). I'll send out my cell to RSVPs (but as always there is no guarantee of reception).

We'll be hiking the Wildcat Creek and San Pablo Ridge trails in Wildcat Canyon Park.  The loop will be around 7-8 miles and 500 foot elevation gain.  This is a dog-friendly park and well behaved dogs are welcome (though be aware we are likely to meet cattle on this trail, so be sure your dog is happy around livestock).

Hopefully the weather will be good, but be prepared for rain or mud.  At this time of year be sure to bring sun screen and a sun hat.  Also be sure to avoid Poison Oak, which can be found on most bay area trails.

Carpooling is recommended as there is limited parking at the trailhead (park along Rifle Range road, but look out for no parking signs).  I will be driving from the NOPA district of SF, email via meetup if you need a lift.

After the hike I will going to Elevation 66 brewery if anyone fancies a drink and/or a snack.

The posted elevation gain was easily surpassed; I chose this event carefully as one I could do even with minor discomfort I was having my back that week. Had it been a 500 ft gain, I could have done it but had to quit part way when it became more than that. I was disappointed to have to quit the hike; please, post actual information as it's often heavily relied on by others. I have hiked with you before and it's never been so "off the mark" as it was this time. Other than that, I look forward to hiking with you again on hikes that will be within my abilities and accurately described :-)

Great hike w/ amazing, panoramic views. Esp. enjoyed the forested Havey Canyon trail. Am almost glad I went with the 500' estimate and didn't look up the actual elevation gain of over 1100 feet (!) ** - as I was doing this after hiking 12 miles on Saturday. Thankfully, no one ran out of water or enthusiasm despite the 220% unanticipated bonus (Father's Day special?!)

Kudos to Gareth for waiting at the junctions for the rearguard.

** Min. elevation gain from simple elevn. differences from the park map -- http://tinyurl.com/l9herau [Start ~800'. Creek Crossing (Bridge) ~400'. Peak 1057'. ]
