Claremont Canyon Hike

NOTE: Change of date now December 8th!

Directions/meeting point:(the directions linked above are not always reliable, use these details to find the start of the hike) the meeting point will at the at the start of Stonewall-Panoramic trail on Stonewall Road in Berkeley.   I will be driving my Silver Subaru Impreza WRX, license plate ending in 468.   I'll be wearing this black Sanzaru Games hoodie (if it's not too hot). I'll send out my cell to RSVPs (but as always there is no guarantee of reception).

I will be tracking this hike via the Maprika app on my phone (). I will be setting up a "Meeting" if you want to find the meeting point that way. If you add me as a contact on Maprika (Gareth Morgan, [masked]) I will invite you the meeting. However don't rely on on your phone having reception and/or battery, know where the meeting point is without it.

This weeks hike is in Claremont Canyon in Berkeley. We will take Stonewall-Panoramic trail up the canyon to the UC East-West trail to its end before returning via the UC Jordan Trail. I expect this to be around 6-8 miles with a LOT of elevation gain (the first mile or so is very steep with around 1000 feet elevation gain, and it gets steeper from there).

Dress in layers, bring lots of water and snacks.  Hopefully the weather will be good, but be prepared for rain and mud. Also be sure to avoid Poison Oak, which can be found on most bay area trails. The park allows on-leash dogs, and well behaved dogs are welcome.  Carpooling recommended, as there is not a ton of parking at the trailhead (park along Stonewall Rd, though be sure to obey "no parking" signs).

As with all my hikes everyone signs up at their own risk, and you assume all liability associated with the hike and carpooling to it (by RSVPing you agree to our conditions of membership).

If anyone fancies a post-hike beer and a snack, we'll be heading over to Triple Rock brewery in Berkeley after the hike.

Great hike! Gareth, thanks for organizing another excellent hiking event. I enjoyed everything, weather, hiking route, people.

Also thanks to Janelle to bring all of us to Triple Rocks in Berkeley after event. Pint of Red Rock and Hamburger made my day!

Gareth, Thanks for leading such a great hike. It was a friendly group, followed by a fun get together at the Triple Rock Brewery. Exciting game, too. Go Niners!

It may be easier to park on Tanglewood, or at the corner of Derby and Belrose, and walk 100m up Tanglewood path to trailhead -- but note that you can't enter Tanglewood from Derby.

RE: "The park allows on-leash dogs...."

Actually, dogs are allowed off-leash, as they are in virtually all EBRPD parks.

The second half of the hike is on UC Berkeley land which is on-leash only, I think.

Just a suggestion to anyone that needs a ride and can ride BART, Rockridge station is only 1.4 miles away, a nice 20-30 min walk, that'll solve your carpool issues
