Hike to Tourist Club for Sommerfest

Directions/meeting point: (the meetup.com directions linked above are not always reliable) the meeting point will be at the Muir Beach parking lot (if it is full there is more parking on Muir Woods road, just past the junction with Highway One).   I'd recommend using this link to find our meeting point.  I'll send out my cell to RSVPs (but as always there is no guarantee of reception).

Advance tickets are now sold out.  We should get to the club early enough that there will still be tickets available on the door.  But there is a chance you may need to wait before getting in if you don't have an advance ticket(they will do "one-in one-out" when it becomes too full).

This week we'll be doing something a bit different, we are hiking to the German Tourist Club, an amazing location in the heart of Muir Woods.  Three times a year they are open to the public and this Sunday is Sommerfest.  We will hike Diaz Ridge, Miwok Trail and Dipsea trail to the get to club.  It will be around 7-8 miles to the club. GPS recording of the route is here. On the way back we will take a shorter, more direct route, with much less elevation change.

The festival will feature polka band, traditional group dances in traditional dress, a menu of traditional foods and, of course, excellent beers complete a fun-filled day for all ages (The club is CASH ONLY, NO ATM ON SITE!).  The purely beer/sausage/lederhosen/dirndl-related part of the day is a separate event I will be running for the Bay Area Beer Socials group.

I would rather not drive to this one (as with all events like this DO NOT drive if you plan on partaking of the beer at the Sommerfest, something I'd quite like to do). If anyone has a couple of spare seats, for me and Micah, coming from SF that would be great, thanks! We can get to anywhere in SF to be picked up.

Hi this is my first hike with the group and was wondering if anyone from the San Francisco or Daly City area would be driving there. If yes, can I hitch a ride with you?

Hi Johanne, I initially needed a driver to attend, as I won't be driving. But now I don't think I can make it anymore. I hope you find a driver!

Hi Gareth, If I can know the estimated time of the hike itself and bathrooms (bathroom breaks!) along the way, I can plan accordingly. Thanks!!

It's about 3 hours there, quite a bit shorter back. There is one bathroom near the end (when we pass Muir Woods entrance)

Thanks for the heads-up Gareth. Okay, I'm gonna go on this hike whether I get a ticket in advance or not, but I would feel a little more comfortable if I could get a ticket in advance. So, if anyone wants to sell their ticket, please let me now.

    Thank you.

I got in touch with someone with the tourist club. We should get to the club early enough that there will still be tickets available on the door. But once they run out of space they will do "one-in one-out" so you may have to wait if you don't have a ticket.

I'm more than happy to buy off a ticket if someone can't go at the last minute! Thanks, Martha, I am late, too.

I'm in! This will be my first hike with the group. I live on Russian Hill and have room for three passengers if you still need a lift.

I'm in Walnut Creek (other side of tunnel) if anyone wants to drive out 2gether. This will be my first time out with this group. Looking forward & concerned about hike difficulty. I suppose bear will help.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
