Directions/meeting point: (the meetup.com directions linked above are not always reliable) the meeting point will be at Palos Colorados Trailhead at the end of Joaquin Miller Ct in Oakland. I'd recommend using this link to find our meeting point. I'll send out my cell to RSVPs (but as always there is no guarantee of reception). There is limiting parking at the trailhead, if it is full I would park along Mountain Blvd, be sure to obey no parking signs.
This week we'll be doing something a bit different, we are hiking to the Oakland Nature Friends club, an amazing location in the Oakland hills. They are open to the public for their annual Oktoberfest celebration. The festival will feature polka band, traditional group dances in traditional dress, a menu of traditional foods and, of course, excellent beers complete a fun-filled day for all ages. Tickets to the event are $10 and can be purchased at the club on the day of the event, or online in advance. If you would rather just join us at the club rather than hike, I am hosting the beer-drinking and polka part of the event for BABS. NOTE that the club is cash only and has NO ATM.
We will hike through Joaquin Miller Park to the club. We will circumnavigate Joachim Miller, via Palos Colorados, Chaparral, Big Trees, Sinawak, and Bishop's Walk, trails.
We'll then walk along Butters Drive to the club (the last 3/4 mile has no side walk, so be careful of oncoming traffic and walk single file!) As with all my hikes everyone signs up at their own risk, and you assume all liability associated with the hike and carpooling to it (by RSVPing you agree to our conditions of membership).
A GPS recording of the route we'll take to the club is here. Walking back we'll probably take a shorter route, depending on how much beer drinking and/or polka-ing we've done.
I would rather not drive to this one (as with all events like this DO NOT drive if you plan on partaking of the beer at the Oktoberfest, something I'd quite like to do). If anyone has spare seats for me and Micah coming from SF that would be great, thanks. I live in NOPA but could get to anywhere in SF to be picked up (or take BART and meet at the station).
