Hike to Tourist Club for Sommerfest

Directions/meeting point: (the meetup.com directions linked above are not always reliable) the meeting point will be at the entrance to Redwood Creek Trail in Muir Beach (at the junction of Highway One and Muir Woods Road).   I'd recommend using this link to find our meeting point.  There is road-side parking next to the trail head (but if its full Muir Beach is a short walk away and has parking).  I'll send out my cell to RSVPs (but as always there is no guarantee of reception)

This week we'll be doing something a bit different, we are hiking to the German Tourist Club an amazing location in the heart of Muir Woods.  Three times a year they are open to the public and this Sunday is Sommerfest.  The festival will feature polka band, traditional group dances in traditional dress, a menu of traditional foods and of course, excellent beers complete a fun-filled day for all ages.  Tickets to the event are $15 and can be purchased at the Tourist Club on the day of the event.

If you would rather not hike to the event, the purely beer/sausage/lederhosen/dirndl-related part of the day is a separate event I am running for the Bay Area Beer Socials group.

We'll take the Redwood Creek Trail from Muir Beach, then cross the road to Dipsea trail which we will take to Sun Trail which leads to the Tourist Club.  The hike should be around 3-4 miles each way.  This is a state park, so dogs are not allowed unfortunately.

I live in the Piedmont area of Oakland, and would like to carpool. Either I can drive, or contribute towards gas with someone else!

Anybody willing to give a ride to 2 hikers from San Francisco?

Tom and RZ, Those signed up for the event receive comments as email if, by their settings, they've chosen to receive comments as email. For myself, I send the flood of Meetup email to a separate address that I mostly ignore and use the Meetup homepage to see events and comments that I choose. I think use of the Comments section to facilitate carpooling is most appropriate.

RZ, don't take it personally. For example, when I drive these distances or pay to cross bridges, I connect the trip with other errands or visit friends in that hiking area. I can imagine others have figured out this efficiency, too. So, upshot, having a passenger and having the responsibility to return them home kinda gets in the way.

RZ, are you aware that everyone signed up for this event gets an email everytime you post a comment?

So far no positive response to my request for a ride from SF or BART. Incredible how present time have change people's solidarity attitude considering the amount of people going from SF. Will keep looking for a ride.

I will start from Cupertino, go along 101, 380, 280, Highway 1/19th Avenue and over Golden gate bridge. I can pickup people along the way. I do not drink.

Despite what it says in the description I would rather not drive to this one (as with all events like this DO NOT drive if you plan on partaking of the beer at the Sommerfest, something I'd quite like to do). If anyone has spare seat coming from SF that would be great, thanks. I live in NOPA but could get to anywhere in SF to be picked up.

My beer geoup has been there several times with good sized groups and it hasn't been a problem

Gareth, the Tourist Club website says "No Groups Larger than 7 People". We may need to break up into smaller groups.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
