The ALA of Minnesota Race Up the Place 2013

The ALA is looking for volunteers to help on Saturday morning. I know it's early, but you're done by 11 or noon so you still have the afternoon to enjoy the day.  We've helped with water stops, registration, and passing out shirts to the participants, so there's lots to do.

If you sign up for this event, please send me an e-mail with your contact information (First and Last Name and e-mail address) so that I can forward on to the organizer from the ALA. They will be sending out information packets pretty soon.

On Saturday, February 23rd 2013, the American Lung Association of Minnesota presents Race UP the Place, a stair climb fundraising event. A diverse crowd will gather at Accenture Tower in downtown Minneapolis, to climb 30 floors/60 flights/660 stairs to the top of the building.

Race UP the Place participants, as individuals or teams, competitive and noncompetitive will climb their way up the 30 stories in 10-second intervals, to arrive at the top. Participants will use the event, sometimes called a "vertical road race," as a fitness target, a competitive race, an effort to support clean air and healthy lungs or simply as a great way to have fun being part of something brand new.
The average climber takes less than 15 minutes to get to the top of the tower!

Check out our local participants and volunteers that share their stories about how lung disease has affected their life and their support of the American Lung Association on the Lung Champions page.

For the first part of the day, I helped keep crowds back so the ultimate climbers could keep repeating their laps and announced "Climber coming" and they came down the escalator. What energy they have!! Then I helped give out water to the climbers as they passed the 19th floor and saw an amazing group of climbers of all ages. The fire fighter climbers in full gear were extra special. Even with the early time requirement (6am) would do it again. The 5 1/2 hrs went quickly.

I was at the Beat My Time station and had the opportunity to interact with other volunteers, corporate sponsors, and participants. Overall, it was a good event. I would volunteer there again.

Hi Carol - I looked on the website referenced about and saw that there's underground parking that opens at 5am. Cost is $3 that you have to pay on way in. Hope to see you tomorrow. Judy

Unfortunately I can't make this event, but look for Maura Studer or Annie Henriksen as they are the volunteer coordinators for ALA and are giving out assignments. Thank you for volunteering!!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
