Happy Friday everyone. I hope the summer is going well and you're staying cool if the heat is a problem. I want to apologize for the Second Harvest scheduling mix up. I forgot to change the meetup from the 4th to the 11th, so I apologize for those of you who drove to Golden Valley only to find the facility closed. The rest of the year's Second Harvest events are scheduled correctly, so please consider coming back starting in August.
I received the following e-mail from People Serving People about a change in their security process starting August 1st. If you are active in serving food, please contact Nancy Hagen directly so the appropriate security level is set for you.
As always, thank you for your time and talents. Have a nice weekend.
We appreciate all the time that your staff spends at People Serving People. We are going to be making a few updates to our security system, and the new system will go into place on August 1st.
We are going to be implementing a 3 step name badge system based on how long a volunteer has been at PSP.
o Step 1: anyone who has been serving here less than 3 months will be able to pick-up an orange name badge at security, we ask that you leave the badge when you leave.
o Step 2: at the 3 month mark, we would like to give the volunteer a badge with their name on it that they can take home with them, and use the badge so security can identify them when they return to PSP.
o Step 3: at the 1 year mark, we would like to give the volunteer a more permanent style badge with their name on it the year they started serving at PSP and again this would be something they could take home and use when they return to PSP.
With Steps 1 & 2 the volunteers will need to have any of their bags checked when they come to PSP as well as be able to go through the metal detector without setting it off.
Once a volunteer reaches Step 3, they will only need to have security check their bags when they leave.
With all of that said, we would like a list of the volunteers that come with your group with their contact information so we can reach out to each volunteer and let them know what is going on. We also would like to make sure we have an accurate start date for each volunteer.
Though no particular incidence has resulted in this increased security, this is part of a greater effort to have uniform security policies and practices for all individuals in our building. Above all, we want to ensure that the children in our shelter are in a safe and secure building.
Thank you for your assistance with making PSP safe for our children. All of the volunteers who help with meal serving are integral to our service to the children and families in our shelter. Without the support of your team members, People Serving People would not be able to have the resources necessary to help families find their way home. We appreciate all that you do for us!
