Let’s celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Rabbit with some great dim sum! Ton Kiang not only serves some of the best dim sum in town, but is the only place I know that serves it all day every day. In the evening, however, selections are made from a menu instead of a cart. So, let’s avoid the traditional brunchtime crowd and have a relaxed dim sum dinner.
For those unfamiliar with dim sum, these appetizer-sized morsels are served on small plates which are shared by everyone at the table (think Chinese-style tapas). With 12-36 or more of these small plates (depending on the number in our group) and Ton Kiang’s 21 varieties to choose from, there'll be something for everyone. (You know how rabbits like to nibble on everything!) See this simple chart of their selections: http://www.tonkiang.net/Dim%20Sum.html.
The bill will be divided equally, and depending on how many RSVP and how many dishes we order, I estimate the cost per person should be around $25 or less, including tax and tip. Please bring cash (ideally, with some small bills) to cover your share.
We'll order as a group, so please be on time. Allow extra time to find street parking which can sometimes be challenging in that area. If taking MUNI, the 38 Geary line goes right by the restaurant. The 2, 1, 31 and 29 MUNI lines will also get you within walking distance.
Please RSVP only if you’re fairly sure you can make it, and can commit to cancelling before 10am the day of the event if you find you won’t be able to attend.
