More Filth....

Happy New Year! Sorry I couldn't wish you all that in person last night but I was bedridden (sort of... maybe I'm being a tad dramatic). I hear Walking the Amazon was especially conversation-provoking. Many thanks to Penny for looking after proceedings.

Anyway, what better way to greet the new year than with some general warming erotica :)

This month's book theme was Banned Books and you have chosen to read Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller. Here's a link:

http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/products/henry+miller/tropic+of+cancer/3560807/

I know the 12th February was most popular, but when I rang the gallery today they said there was an event on that night, so I have had to go with the 11th instead. So I hope you can all still make it. We have a cracking little group going and I'm looking forward to meeting the new faces who were there last night.

See you soon, Bibliophiles :)

P.S No prizes for guessing that February's theme is Love. Please forward me ideas of your favourite love stories, and I will make a selection from your ideas. Preferably fiction.

Thanks :)

    Or text me, my number's 07581 022733.

OK. This is terrible and as organiser of the group am deeply ashamed, but:

I can't read this book. I have read two chapters and it is making me want to pull my eyes out, dip them in vinegar and replace them in their respective sockets.

Therefore I am so very much looking forward to seeing you all, some for the first time, but I can't add anything of interest to the discussion. If you have finished the book and would therefore like to lead proceedings, PLEASE PLEASE feel free!!!

There is the main room with the bar, and we will not be there. We will be in the next room, or the one just after. I will be there early, and will have a hat on the the table so easy to spot. If you turn up later, we will be easy to find. Lots of glasses of wine. Will keep an eye out for you, and approach everybody with red hair. We are a very friendly group. Nothing to worry about. M

Oh, and I want you to give me suggestions of your favourite books on the theme of LOVE. Real love, not love in the eyes of Mr Henry Miller.

Perks of being a wallflower is too much like our standard book. Wallbanger, is just me being cynical over valentines day.

I read this book eons ago & wasn't very impressed with it either; so I wasn't sorry that I couldn't make it to the group meeting. I'd like to suggest Dorris Lessing's 'The Grass is Singing' for the next meet up. However, if you let me know what the next title is, I'll definitely attend the next meeting.

I'm intrigued to acquaint myself with like minded readers and ascertain what kind of book enthusiasts are there?

    February 9, 2014

    • Valerie

I think we are a group with a wide range of views and likes - which makes it interesting. Although, as you can see, there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm for this particular book

I'm also struggling with this book - going to try my best to read at least a bit more before Tuesday although I'm not sure I'll have anything very sensible to say about it - except deepest apologies for having voted for it

If anybody else will be there earlier, would appreciate a critical eyes on the angles.
Jolly dull to do, but need to know if I am flashing at all. Should only take 10 minutes. Jonathan x

Looking forward to seeing you next week. As for those who are staying away because they hated the book: WHAT???!!!! That's the idea of this group... we don't all attend only if we loved it. I want to know if you hated it, too! That's the point, really, to have fiery discussions and swap opinions, no matter how strong (about the book, that is. Don't want to be caught in the middle of personal differences!!)

Come along even if you haven't read it. You're all welcome.

I'm going to buck the trend and say: I have read the book, I found it interesting (but troubling), and I will be attending...unless of course I get a better offer...by which I mean someone offers to cook me dinner so I can use the opportunity to have an inappropriate relationship with his wife, in which case you can read about it in my book: 'annoying men do stuff and then complain about it' to add to the sequence

Someone at the last meetup recommended a different book about walking in the UK and I thought I wrote it down, but apparently didn't. Did anyone catch it? I've been searching and searching and think it might be Walking Home by Simon Armitage. I wanted to see if anyone could confirm before I buy it. Thanks! :)
