Dearest Awesome readers,
Is poetry the lanuage of your heart? Are you totally rolling your eyes at me? Well, whatever your current propensity for poetry, let's read some and hash it out!
But don't worry this won't be like school. I will pick the author, you pick any of his works. Read what you like, leave the rest. Just for fun I thought we could each choose one poem to read or present. Be ready to share your thoughts or recruit a poetry analysis tool to guide you. Or not... Did I mention there's 15 wines on tap? And yummy food in a cozy neighborhood spot? Just read some poetry with an open mind and join us for dinner!
The poet: one of my favorites and former U.S. poet laureate, Billy Collins.
I'll be reading: "Picnic, Lightning," "The Trouble with Poetry," and his new book, "Horoscopes For the Dead." See, its not archaic, or gushy or stream of conciousness stuff. Billy Collins is pretty approachable and sometimes funny. If anyone finds a useful poetry analysis tool feel free to post a comment or a link. Happy reading!
