Festival of the Bonfires - CHRISTMAS ON THE RIVER...CAJUN STYLE!

  • December 13, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Al and Nancy's contact for the Bonfire night[masked]-0375.

I will stay in front of the church until I have met up with those of you who are coming running late and/are alone especially. I will have a balloon.

Links:  1.  Driving directions  2.  Schedule  3: Map

 - Address: Lutcher Park
                 Highway 3193 Lutcher Avenue
                  Lutcher, LA 70071

 - Meetup Place and Time: At the church across the street from the entrance to the festival at 6:30. The entrance is tented and is the only entrance. The buses meet in front of the church. The bonfire lighting is at 7pm. You can catch a bus to the levee or drive directly there in your car **.

 - Parking for the Festival: In Lutcher park there will be a designated parking area or you can park in the church parking lot. (This is good for those that want to ride the bus and not deal with the traffic, or who are running a bit late and want to go into the festival instead of going to the levee.)

 - Parking on the Levee for the Bonfires : Parking along the River Road at the bonfire site (1/2 mile from Festival),  at a dentist office there, and nursing home right there. Busy, but is an option if you are running late and want to see the lighting.

*********This is the road to park along for the bonfire lighting if you don't plan on meeting at the church and parking there.************

I recommend taking the bus from Lutcher park.

The buses will be leaving from the road right in front of the entrance to the festival and church on Louisiana Ave. Being there by 6:30 will get you on the bus the lady I spoke with said. The buses fill up quickly.

I am not going to the lighting, but will be waiting for anyone running late especially if you are alone. Al will be on the bus with those that decide to go that route.

The festival runs all weekend. Admission is only $4. Kids under 10 and Adults 62+ — Free

Ok, but if you decide to join us, the festival runs late and there will be food and music. We are going to try to meet back up inside the festival after the bonfire lighting. Maybe if you miss the bus, I can bring those that want to to the levee. Al has a van. (It is modified and has only one bench seat in the back but there is room in the center if you don't mind sitting on the floor of it.

Since you will be early are you going on the bus to the lighting? Or will you be inside the festival. Just wanted you to know Al and I will be outside the festival at the church at 6:30. Thanks for volunteering the carpool

      A former member

No problem on the carpooling. As far as I know we're going to the lighting of the bonfires. We were gonna meet Al at the church for 6:30 to catch the bus. As long as we can go back after the lighting to check out the festival part of it. None of us (Chris and Megan and I) have ever been before so we'll probably want to see it all.

      1 · December 12, 2013

  • Nancy H.

    IMPORTANT:

DON'T Post you cell phone number on this page!! Al just got a text at work pretending to be me.

I asked earlier for a volunteer, but don't put it up.It can wait until we get there.

    December 12, 2013

  • Nancy H.

I was also told the food is really good

    December 12, 2013

  • Nancy H.

We still need someone who doesn't mind to take the lead with their cell number if they will be with the group on the levee. Al and I only have one cell phone. He will be with y'all, but won't have a phone. Some people might drive directly to the levee and want to find you all. This would be really helpful.

I will have Al's phone:[masked] waiting for others at the meeting place and festival so everyone can find us if they are running late or are alone. Thanks everyone!

    December 12, 2013

  • Nancy H.

This should be fun and we will stay in constant contact as the group may split up in two. Hope everyone makes it! They are lighting more than one bonfire, so it should be nice.

Call me here at Al's home land line today to clarify anything. I will be here all day: The land line number at his place is[masked]-5914. Be sure to let it ring and give me enough time to get to it.
Try not to call Al on his cell during the day. Just use his cell number Friday night. He is at work with his cell.

    So just call me here:
    Land line number is[masked]

  • Nancy H.

If you are late and want to go to the church and festival, I will be in front until approx. 7.

If you miss the bus to get you down the road and want to see the lighting, just drive directly to the bonfires on the levee. We can all meetup inside the festival afterwards.
    Does this make sense?

    1 · December 12, 2013

  • Nancy H.

Festival of the Bonfires: I will be waiting for anyone who is coming alone especially. I will be at the church in front. If you want to see the lighting and don't want to drive there alone, I suggest getting there early enough to catch a ride with the others.

Got It: Okay, the bonfires are about 1/2 mile down from the festival on the levee. If you stay on Louisiana Avenue (The street that the park and festival is on) then go through a red light , the bonfires are right there. There is parking at along the levee, at a dentist office and a nursing home there.

Anyone who doesn't want to ride the bus can drive strait to the bonfire lighting at 7 pm. That way you are not dependent on the bus to return to the festival.

We are still meeting at the church at 6:30,. I just spoke with her again and she said it is the best spot.

    1 · December 12, 2013

  • Nancy H.

Al and I are leaving from his work and going directly to Gramercy via I-10 and Airline so we won't be able to carpool. Rob can't make it so meeting for carpooling in Geismar won't work. Just get on here and let others know your situation about the carpooling. Also, the coordinator told me no alcohol can be brought into the tented entrance, because it is sold inside. But she didn't say anything about the buses or the bonfire. Just put your drink, if you have one, in a discreet cup or flask for the ride. I know people drink once on the levee by the bonfires. I am just not sure about bringing open containers on the bus.

This is a lot of information. I will break it down and make it more concise, so it is easier to read and post it on the top of the page for easy access Friday.

    1 · December 12, 2013

  • Nancy H.

Instead of meeting at the festival, we could meet at the bonfires once I get exact location. But the parking would be a problem. And anyone running late would have to make sure to contact someone there already to find them. I prefer to meet at the festival, but am not sure how long the buses will be at the bonfires. This could present a problem. All of this I am calling about tomorrow. - Like how long the buses remain at the lighting, how to get directly to the bonfire by car. I will be posting in the late morning. He told me the festival is really worth going to, to him, more than the lighting. But he has seen them before.

    1 · December 12, 2013

  • Nancy H.

just spoke to a friend in Gramercy. The bonfires are around the welcome center near La Place on Airline Hwy. They have a Tee Pee set up. Those of you who want to go directly to see the bonfires can go there. I am calling tomorrow for exact directions. He told me they light several of the tee pees (designs, some really cool) on Friday night. All of them will be lit Christmas eve. The food also is really good at the festival. Meeting at a different location might be an option.
    Any input in welcome. Thanks.

Those running late can also drive directly to the bonfire and try to find a place to park along the side streets I am guessing. (I have never been) I don't know where the bonfire buses are taking everyone to until I get there and ask, then post. I can try to find out beforehand. Question: For anyone who has been there before, is it easy to find a place to park near the bonfire on the levee lighting? Do people just park along side the River Rd and side streets?

    1 · December 11, 2013

  • Nancy H.

We can all meet-up inside the festival after the buses get back from the lighting. I think this will work best. If anyone else has any better idea, please let me know. The buses fill up quickly, the coordinator told me. I don't want anyone wondering where everyone went if they are running behind, or think they have missed the group and entire festival. So I will wait outside awhile then go inside and enjoy the festival until the bonfire goers get back. The buses bring you all back to the festival and we can get together inside. Is this okay with everyone?

    1 · December 11, 2013

  • Nancy H.

I am not going to the lighting, but will be waiting at the front entrance of the festival for anyone running late. Then going into the festival to wait for Al, who will be with anyone who went on the bus to the lighting at 7.
