Baton Rouge's St. Patrick's Day 29th Annual "Wearing of The Green" Parade

Let's get out and enjoy another nice spring outdoor parade in B.R.

"..Baton Rouge's St Patrick's Day parade and celebration is a really big event. . It's big, it's fun and it's crazy but it's safe for the whole family so check it....

This writer suggested the best place to go hang out is around the Perkin's road overpass. where all the best bars and restaurants are. They put on their best for St Patty's day including LIVE BANDS and GOOD FOOD.

"Thousands of people hang out in this area so it feels like one big tailgate party"

Magpie Cafe (Link) The restaurant is official CLOSED. It is 2 blocks from the overpass and there are several restaurants on the parade route (listed below) right there.

The Wearin' of the Green Parade begins at the intersection by the Catholic Life Center:

· Starts at Hundred Oaks and South Acadian Thruway

· Proceeds down Hundred Oaks, turns right on Eugene

· Down Eugene, makes left on Terrace

· Takes final left on Perkins Road

· Continues down Perkins Road over the overpass

· Parade ends at intersection of Stanford and Perkins Road

Thanks Everyone!

Nancy I think it's best to stick with the original location to meet up with everyone then we can walk to another location if need be. I'll be there for 8:00-8:30 to park and hopefully beat the traffic.

I will be bringing a gallon of Kiss Me juice, in case anyone would like to share. It's lemonade mixed with tequila, raspberry vodka, Malibu, and triple sec. I turned it green in honor of the Irish! I suggest mixing it with sprite right before drinking, but it can be had straight up.

    1 · March 14, 2014

    • Greg

That makes it all the more Irish! Bring sunscreen folks. Lots of fair skinned res heads out there.

Is this group for any certain age range?

    March 14, 2014

Age 18-infinity I believe. Have to be an adult. I've never seen the restrictions other than having a good time with good people.

    Chelsea's Cafe,
    Rama
    George's
Ivar's Sports Bar and Grill Pinetta's European..
    Parrain's Seafood
    Magpie Cafe (Closed)

These are some of the places that are on the parade route by the Perkins Rowe overpass. This is why the article suggested it. Because some of these places put out food...
The Magpie is on the route closer to Acadian Shopping Center which is also on the route. I can call these places if you want to see who is open since the Magpie isn't. The Magpie is 2 blocks from the overpass and the other restaurants.(Or I can call these other places and see who is open.) It is on the parade route and closed.

Does everyone still want to just gather there and walk to a location to watch the parade or watch it from there?

Or move the meeting location to the park where the kids can play? Any other suggestions if you know about parking are very welcome. I

    March 14, 2014

  • Nancy H.

My apologies. Acadian Thruway is open. There might be places along there to park. The place I suggested are towards the end of the parade, but not the very end.

    March 13, 2014

Shannon depends on what time you get there. Last year I had to park on College and walk all the way down to Zippys. Bring your walking shoes and ice chest on wheels. Chair too. You will want a chair.

Looks like fun! Good idea is if you have a bike bring it so when you park 2miles away you can ride it down the road.

Thank you Annette, my apologies if I came across anything other than trying to be helpful. I believe we are attempting to help settle the bit of confusion. I'm looking forward to see you again. You are always fun and full of energy.

Folks. We don't have to meet inside for a parade. Just meet at Magpies and if you need to be inside there are a ton of places to go. Zippys is right next door and that's where the port a pottys usually are located as well. Zippys has music, food, and burritos. This is where the action is located and it's not THAT crowded.
Just let me know where we are meeting. Maybe pick up a red balloon to help identify the group or something like that.

I agree with Greg, meet at Magpie's and we can walk to any open places. I'll be driving in close to 8:30 to beat traffic, parking, and road closures due to the parade. My daughter and I will be crazily decked out in green.

Digulio Brothers Cafe 2903 Perkins is close to overpass but opens at 11:00. Would Acadian Village Center at 3555 Perkins Road be too far to walk to overpass? Help!! need a meetup site.

  • Annette G.

Just called Magpie Cafe and they will be CLOSED all day Saturday. Acme Oyster House opens at 11:00; Galatoires's Bistro opens at 11:30. Any suggestions for meetup.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for Saturday.. Mafpie Cafe is CLOSED. We need a new place to meet, Any suggestions?
We need a place that is good for small children . She told me the parade is great for families. Family friendly.
