Hello food preservation enthusiast!
February 25th, 6pm-9pm canning session; Rancho Allegra Farm; All welcome ages 16 and above (4th Tues of the month)
Kelly Haag will be organizing the supplies, timeline, and equipment. She will ask several volunteers to be on point at different stations. Kelly H will demonstrate how to can pecan syrup using the waterbath method that we learned at our October class. If you missed the October class, no worries as we will demonstrate the waterbath method while we can. It will be hands-on learning for all.
The cost will be similar to past canning sessions. Kelly H has graciously agreed to organize the purchase of canning supplies needed. At the end of the evening, we will count up how many jars were made and the cost of individual jar. We will have a limited number of jars to take home for this session as it will be a smaller batch canning. For March, we are looking for someone from the group to organize March canning session including purchasing the canning supplies. Kelly H and myself have the canning equipment that can be used but need someone to organize purchasing the products and canning stations.
Facility usage fee- We are asking for a small $2.00 donation per person for those that attend each canning session. At the end of the night the entire amount in the jar will go directly to Rancho Alegre’s farm. This will help with the utility expenses that we are using during our canning session. I’ll have a money jar next to the sign in sheet to place the money in.
If you should have any particular canning recipe or samples that you want to share, please bring to the meeting and we can set up a share table. Happy canning!
