Good Reads & Good Eats-Ann Arbor: January Meetup

    • Join us on Tuesday January 8th, 2013 at 7pm to discuss The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht. We will meet at Amadeus (122 E. Washington St.).

    • You are strongly encouraged  to join the waiting list. Almost everyone on the waiting list ends up getting to attend because the early responders often have something else come up and then change their RSVP to "no" - which automatically adds the first person on the waiting list to the attendees. There has only been one time when anyone at all was left on the waiting list by the time the meeting actually rolled around.
    • Please bring $1 to help cover the costs of using the Meetup website and cash to make paying the check easier for our large group.

I thoroughly enjoyed discussing this book and all its layers.

It was a good meeting although smaller than usual. The discussion was enlightening. It underscored Junot Diaz's comments about novels being for a community of readers who can come to a better understanding of novels by discussing them as a community. The fabulist techniques of Tea Obreht were better understood after sharing insights on just what happened, who the deathless man was in love with, the relationship of the narrator to her grandfather, there being just enough character development. All in all it was good discussion and the Pierogis were really good.

Sharing this interview that the author of this months's book did with PBS. See you Tuesday!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
