The 8th Annual Anti-Valentine's Day Celebration!!

Finding a location for this event this year was a little harder than anticipated, since even the least romantic places we could think of didn't take reservations or wanted us to commit to spending a certain amount per person.  However, we're happy to announce that the unromantic location in which we'll be celebrating this year is: Miller Ale House!  Miller Ale House is an English pub style gathering spot with traditional American food, over 75 beers and ciders on tap, a full bar, pool tables, darts, and a welcoming atmosphere. Smoking is permitted on the enclosed patio, but the bar itself is non-smoking. There is parking on premises.

Every year, we celebrate Valentine's Day in our own special way ---by getting together at a laid-back, unromantic venue that has absolutely nothing to do with hearts and flowers, $125 dinners for two, or dressing in your finest red and black ensemble. Whether you're single or a happy couple, you'll have a great time hanging out with friends and meeting new people in a fun, pressure-free environment where nobody will ask you when you're going to meet a nice guy/girl, or when you're finally going to tie the knot. This is the 8th year we've held this event, and it's always a popular one.

Leave your fancy garb and flowers at home, and come out for an extensive menu of unpretentious pub food, drinks, games, and getting to meet new friends or catch up with old ones. This is not a singles' event; whether you're single and looking, married, dating, going through a divorce, or happily not seeking romance, there will be someone like you at this event.

Space is limited, because it's Valentine's Day and getting reservations for a large group is tough! Please only RSVP when you know you can make it!:)

Come on out and celebrate the least romantic Valentine's Day possible! We always have a ton of fun with this idea, and hope you do, too. :)

Hey guys!! I know a few of you talked to me about joining the non-Meetup event to rent a private Karaoke Room at AI Tunes in Norcross. I'm coordinating the event on FB...so if you were interested, please get in touch with me!:)

I am so glad so many of you could make it! I know the event was on the larger side, so it was hard to chat with everyone, but we do have smaller events for those who prefer the small groups..and larger ones for those who like big parties. (we work to never make them too big, though..we think it's just too hard for even the most extroverted people to meet when you have hundreds of people! JP did a WONDERFUL job in helping to put this together. He's the one who set everything up with the venue, not me, so I'm very pleased with the awesome job he did hosting tonight! Thanks, JP! Many of you, I met, and told you to friend me on FB to stay "in-the-loop" with what's going on that's not always on here, or to get to know me a little better. You can find me at http://www.facebook.com/princessalayna

    Photos to come tomorrow!

I am so sorry I thought this was in atlanta i will not be able to go :(

      February 14, 2014

    • Alayna-Renee

Jennifer, it is in Atlanta...much of Atlanta is comprised of various suburbs (the city of Atlanta is very small, actually) with their own names. Alpharetta is one of the largest suburbs of Atlanta, about 20 minutes from downtown. (Key to Atlanta: Most Things Are 20 Minutes From Downtown, In Any Direction. :P )

  • Alayna-Renee

Just a reminder..this event is happening, and RSVP policy is in effect! We consider no-shows to be anyone who cancels less than 6 hours prior to the event, or who just doesn't show up. You are, however, welcome to add yourself to the event as long as there are spaces!:) Looking forward to seeing you all tonight!

    February 14, 2014

  • Jacob S.

For anyone who's still wondering... most of Alpharetta has thawed out and I imagine it will continue to. So we are still on!

Hey guys!! As you can see, we've secured a great location for this event, so hope to see many of you there!:)

    • Alayna-Renee

Yes, I'd say we try to keep a 60/40 ratio between Midtown/Buckhead/Va-Hi/Downtown events, and the various suburbs (Roswell, Alpharetta, Vinings, Decatur, etc.). This year, I'd like to see us explore places we do not usually host events, like Little 5, East Atlanta, Cabbagetown, and other colourful and artistic neighbourhoods.

I like it that is so much closer to home for me

      February 13, 2014

  • Carli B.

This will be my first MeetUp with this group. Kinda nervous!

    1 · February 13, 2014

    • Alayna-Renee

Carli, we're a little nervous, too, but for different reasons! Cross your fingers for snow and ice to disappear, and that Miller Ale House is OPEN tomorrow. Otherwise, party in the parking lot! *laughs* (But, seriously...no reason to be nervous, we're all very friendly and somewhat silly people!;) )

      February 13, 2014

    • Joe R.

It's going to be a good time.

      February 13, 2014

  • Alayna-Renee

The people at Miller's Ale House are really accommodating and happy to have our group (JP has been doing an awesome job keeping in touch with them.) I think it should be a super-fun outing! So, if you don't have plans, come out for some laid back and non-romantic fun. :) Jared and Paul, welcome to both of you! I will actually be a bit late myself, and so will a few other people...so don't be concerned. The group will be there for a while.

This will be my first meetup as well! I'm in Florida this week for work and I'll be getting back Friday evening, so I might be a little late depending on when the plane actually makes it out. Looking forward to it!

I was inboard with an in-town location :-(

    January 20, 2014

    • Alayna-Renee

Sorry...unless we can people to commit to paying a certain amount per person (which typically doesn't work, especially for people who can't find something to eat on the menu, or don't drink.), we can't find an in-town location. We have contacted MANY places. We're non-profit (well, it actually costs us money to run, so we're negative profit. *lol*) , so we can't afford to do deposits and stuff, and restaurants in town tend to act like it's New York on every holiday. Most flat-out refuse to take reservations, or accommodate groups larger than 6.

      January 20, 2014

  • Alayna-Renee

Brandie, you'll want to add your photo to your profile page, not to this event. Once it's on your profile, the question mark next to your name will disappear, and we'll know who you are!:) Welcome to the group!:)
