Doylestown Museums' Free For All

Back by popular demand, James A. Michener Art Museum, the Mercer and Fonthill Museums and the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works will once again offer a day of FREE admission and special activities. The 2nd annual “Doylestown Museums Free for All,” will also feature free shuttle service between the sites, courtesy of Bucks County Transport. Free parking is available at all four museum locations. The James A. Michener Art Museum is providing free self-guided tours of Pennsylvania Impressionist (New Hope School) & Nakashima galleries. The Museum Shop offers exhibit-related merchandise and gifts and jewelry by local artisans. The Max @the Michener Cafe—overlooking the outdoor sculpture garden—is open for lunch and light fare. The Mercer Museum is offering visitors a unique window into pre-Industrial America as seen through the implements used in everyday life. The collection features 40,000 tools of more than 60 early American crafts and trades on display. The six floors of the museum will be open for self-guided exploration. Henry Mercer's castle home, Fonthill, featuring an incredible array of the famed collector, scholar and tile-maker's handcrafted tiles, is offering free ground-floor open house tours. The Moravian Pottery & Tile Works is a National Historic Landmark and working history museum producing handmade decorative tiles and mosaics & will be offering self-guided tours. This is a $25.-30. savings for everyone who attends. Why pass up a chance to see four excellent museums for free! After the tours, we can go out for dinner at one of Doylestown's many restaurants & walk around town. The Mercer & Fonthill Museums are a short walk from the Doylestown station (R5 line) & carpooling can be arranged. How about it... FREE admission, FREE parking & FREE shuttle buses. See you there! http://www.michenermu... http://www.mercermuse...

Thanks to everyone who came out in the iffy weather (especially those who came a long way)! It was great to meet so many new people & I'm glad everyone enjoyed themselves. We'll definitely be going back as the weather gets warmer- for a small town, there's a lot of cool stuff to do!
P.S. Thank you for the kind words!

Doylestown Museums' Free for All was an excellent choice for a meet up event. I had the opportunity to break out on my own or be with the group. The organizer, Bob, was friendly and considerate.

I had a great time and enjoyed meeting other members of the group. I would definitely like to make this trip again in the near future. I am just sorry that I wasn't 100% today and didn't last to see the other two museums.

I'm taking the R5 there. If anyone is driving back to center city after the meet up and doesn't mind another passenger, please let me know. I will chip in for gas.

Hi! For those of you taking the train: SEPTA's R5 line will take you directly to Doylestown (end of the line). From there, walk across Clinton St. to Bridge St. Continue on Bridge past Main St. (there is a CVS on your right) to Green St. The Mercer Museum will be right in front of you, you honestly can't miss it! I'll be on the other side on Pine St. at 11:00. Don't worry if you're a little late, I'm not going anywhere yet. We'll be busy introducing ourselves & getting situated.

I had already made plans for the week-end in NYC but I will see what I can do to change them. Is photography permitted in most of the locations?
