Re: [atheists-36] UU's

What happened was tragic and the gentleman who stepped in front of the gun to shield others, heroic. Much of what other people say about UU's is negative and unwarranted, but you were promoting UUism as a group of great worth and higher moral merit. Not to belittle this heroism but it is my belief that many Atheists would have done the same in that siuation.
I think that Atheism has and will continue to spawn groups that have a more specific and defined focus and groups like this one can serve as a portal for such endevors. But the primary purpose of an Atheist group is to bring Atheists together in an invironment where disbeleif in gods is a prerequsit. Anyone who promotes any form of religion or spiritualism should expect to be challenge here. While UU's may be good, kind, and heroic they are not the exception and it is promoting their religious worldview to suggest that they are.

there is no boundary to be discussed, there has been no solicitation, there is no event. ffs!

I think it is a matter of proportion, appropriateness and particular purpose. If
Richard Dawkins is giving a talk at a UU church, I'm sure we'll all be glad to hear about it.But we would know anyway. Anybody alerting us to  UU events should limit it to ones that would be of interest to people who do not believe in gods. If you are having an event discussing the threat  of encroachment of religion into government we would be interested. In any case, a church of any kind should only solicit on this board in very special cases. This boundary should be appreciated and respected.

We can have relations with UU's. We can even BE UU's. But I don't think we should be engaged in promoting UUism any more than serving as a message board for the Libertarian party.

so how do you explain all the atheists in your midst which are part of this "religion" that you don't want to see?

I also agree to the fullest. Atheism and any religion by definition are mutually exclusive.
