There's been a lot of big news here in the Senate race recently, and I wish I could say it's all good news.
But, it's not.
Earlier this week, we learned that Republican mega-donor and casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson -- who spent millions backing Newt Gingrich in the presidential primary and now has pledged millions more to support Mitt Romney -- has set his sights on Florida.
Adelson reportedly donated $1 million to an unaccountable super PAC backing one of my GOP opponents, Connie Mack IV. This money will be used to flood Florida's airwaves with insults and false accusations that distort my record and what I stand for.
And, I need you to help me fight back.
Today our campaign is launching a $100,000 grassroots fundraising drive, before the all-important June 30 end-of-quarter deadline. Together, we need to make it clear to Sheldon Adelson and any other GOP super donors that we're not going to let them buy this race.
We know what these billionaire donors like Sheldon Adelson want: They want to keep tax breaks for their special interests. They want to roll back regulations on their industries. These special interests want to loosen rules and regulations with little concern for working families and the middle class.
We can't let them win.
Extremists and their shadowy front groups have targeted me because they know they need this seat to win a Senate majority that will support their radical right-wing agenda. And they are relying on huge contributions from big and mostly undisclosed donors to fund their races.
I'm depending on the support of people like you who want a Congress that works for everyone, especially hard-working families who just want a fair shake.
I don't have someone to give me a million dollars. I don't want that. What I can do is ask you to make a reasonable donation -- one YOU can afford -- to help fuel a real grassroots effort to defeat those who think they can just buy a Senate seat.
With the June 30 FEC reporting deadline looming, now is the moment to send the right-wing mega-donors a powerful message.
I couldn't be more grateful for your support. Thank you.
