Thanks, Dan for your research & comments.  Before forwarding to others, I took the liberty of inserting some double spacing for readability & bolding/highlighting for emphasis what stood out to me as the essence of your essay.

Hello Norma, Dawn and Mary!

The Snopes link, below, addresses Dawn's concern for Obama's support of the NDAA.  It's true that he signed it but he also said, in his signing statement, that he would never authorize detention without trial of American citizens. In sum, his signature was reluctant but he believed it necessary.

Don't forget that this law was passed with the cooperation of both Democrats and Republicans in Congress.  It would strain my credulity to think that any Republican candidate would be more protective of the rule of law than a Democrat and we must all realize that Mitt Romney will say or do almost anything that pleases his conservative base and the probably more conservative gaggle of Republican politicians.

The bottom line about voting Independent is that anyone who does so is likely shooting himself or herself in the foot.

It's kind of like, if someone was attacking your father, you attacked a third person who was either neutral or didn't like either your father or the person attacking him.  You need to attack the guy who's trying to hurt your father.

I'm afraid that, for now, we are stuck with the need to keep it a two party system.  The best we can hope for right now is to, before too long, eliminate the filibuster or at least require the presence of the person who "files" a filibuster.  If that gets done a third party that could bargain with the other two might be slightly more feasible, but not, for a long time, on the Presidential level.

Finally, I'm sure we all realize that impinging on Constitutional rights has a strong Republican pedigree with some collusion by Democrats.  --Dan

P.S. -- Please be sure to read the last few paragraphs of the Snopes link.

Dawn--just noticed after I pressed "Send" that my improvements could be "tweaked."  Colorized Republicans in my "P. S."  This is the "final" version. . .proves the old saying, "Anything can be improved upon". . . (the bane & boon of writers -- & perfectionist/idealistic human beings.

Clarifying Response:  Voting "Independent" vs. voting for a PRACTICAL Alternative Democratic OBAMA WIN -- that can improve conditions (over the "Buy the Election" $$ of the "Have's") for the Middle Class & "have nots" immediately:

(Transmitter Young's Note):  Dawn, I appreciate Mary's compliment to me for being "clear and concise" below; however, in RE-reading, the "editor in me" realized I could improve on my original statement -- being that I wrote it when "dog-tired." (See Improvements/corrections (to both my & Mary's emails below in (  )highlighted.)  I'm also sending this to you because of Mary's inclusion of additional information which is SHOCKING! to me about the sinister manipulations Republicans are going to -- to deprive American citizens of their RIGHT TO VOTE!

I cannot improve on Norma's PS for being clear and concise.  The only thing I could add is that THIS Republican legislature has passed shorter Early voting and Voter ID requirements which disenfranchise the Seniors who can't drive and don't have a license and can't drive to get a State ID or don't have their marriage certificates and Divorce papers so they can get a driver's license. They also require a SS card to get a license.

Can you find yours?

Further, they support people like wonderful Nader to split and weaken a Democratic vote.  One votes (Independently) ignoring the hard fought for rights we could lose, at their (his/her) own) peril.

Dawn, I saw this after I forwarded your request, re: your relatives who are planning to vote for Romney -- to my friends who are politically (more) knowledgeable about Obama (than I):   Dan & Mary.

I'm forwarding this to them also -- with your email address intact so they can forward what they have directly to you.  I don't have time to open up the link & read now.  I am just too BURNT sleep, food & energy-wise.

Thanks, & Kind Regards BACK to YOU!

P. S.  I have voted 3rd party before too-- Ralph Nadar many years ago.  Yes. . .if enough people would Rise UP all at once; however, the reality unfortunately each time is that the 3rd party votes are not enough to elect the 3rd Party Candidate; PLUS, the votes FOR the 3rd Party Candidate can weaken the "Better" of the Two Main Party Candidates -- (or "lesser of the two evils"--depending on your viewpoint) & the Better One of the Two Main Parties can lose -- thus creating a "Worst Case Scenario." & the worst one can win.

Yes. . . it's a "catch 22" situation.  Still a question of "Can the system be fixed?"  Or do we have to create a New one.  HOW to create a new one is the BIG question.  Obama HAS done a lot (for) of human rights.  I know he has been responsible for some of the mortgage mess ("Inside Job" Oscar-winning documentary) in trying to "'contain the damage' in 'Phase I' of Preventing a Global Meltdown/Global 'Great Depression'" fix the HUGE mess the Republicans left him.  If President Obama he can get a 2nd term, hopefully the perpetrators can really be brought to trial (i. e. Watergate yrs. ago) & be tried, convicted, fined & Jailed!   The Republicans would do NONE of that & would take WOMEN back to the Dark Ages & just as soon see lesbians & gays dead if they can't be converted to heterosexual Christianity.  Ugh!

Not a world I want to live in!

Dear Norma,

I understand your reasons for supporting Barack Hussein Obama;
however, are you aware of what's going on re the NDAA???!!!

Personally, I have voted 3rd party for many years.
If only enough people would get sick of this fricking Corporatocracy and do the same....

Kind Regards,
the dawn:D
