Dear Norma,

My name’s Karen Castor Dentel – I’m a Maitland Public School teacher, and I’m also running to be your State Representative.

I’ll be honest - even I wasn’t prepared for the type of false and negative attacks that are being leveled against me by my opponent.  I’ve devoted my life to teaching and educating children, but now Rep. Scott Plakon has resorted to the type of broken politics that epitomizes the problems in Tallahassee.

I know Rep. Plakon is stooping to these lows because he doesn’t want to talk about his own record of draining millions of dollars from our public schools and sending our tax dollars to out-of-state corporations who want to profit off our children’s education. But it’s still frustrating to be the target of such baseless attacks.

That’s why I wanted to share with you a letter, below, that I sent to Rep. Plakon last week urging him to condemn these misleading ads that are being aired on his behalf. It’s been days, and we still haven’t received a response.

I’m running to change Tallahassee, but now it’s up to you – I hope I can count on your vote and support in these final days, so that together, we can stand up to these negative attacks and get Florida moving forward again.

Rep. Scott Plakon
Candidate for Florida House, District 30
186 Industrial Park Drive
Lake Helen, FL 32744

Dear Rep. Plakon,

It has been two days since you and your party launched false attacks on my time in the classroom. Yesterday, I called on you to condemn these negative ads – which the Orlando Sentinel said “stretches the truth” — and demand they be pulled down. However you continue to remain silent.

Your silence speaks volumes, Representative.

Instead of condemning the negative attacks on my time as an educator of our state’s children, you are hiding behind your party and the special interests that have fueled your campaign. This is the sort of shameful leadership that has moved our state in the wrong direction. Florida’s parents, teachers and students are watching, and we haven’t forgotten your reckless votes which have drained millions from our local schools and sent our tax dollars to out of state corporations who want to profit off our children’s education, hurting our communities.

I pledge to always put Florida’s families ahead of the special interests and above all, serve my community with honor and dignity — as I have my entire career. Will you pledge to do the same by removing these false attacks today?

I look forward to your reply.
