We put people in prisons in solitary confinement because of a crime they've committed.  What Crime? has this elephant committed?  None--except to be an animal, born in a society that is ignorant of the human-like feelings that elephants possess for family; in fact, elephants are known to be even more intensely-family-devoted than many humans.  It is cruel and inhuman/in-animal punishment to have torn her away from her natural family, then to have kept her away from them all these years in an artificial environment.  Shame on the Phillipine government, shame on President Marcos -- and shame on all those who participate in keeping animals confined in zoos far away from their natural habitat.  It is a Crime Against Nature.

It's been 33 years since Mali the Elephant had any companions. The president of the Philippines needs to let her go to a Thai sanctuary.

Dear Norma,

Mali the elephant was taken from her family when she was just three years old to be a gift for then-president of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos. For the past 33 years she's lived completely alone in a concrete pen.

Tell the Filipino President to let Mali go to a better home!

Mali suffers from severe depression and foot damage -- a leading cause of death for captive elephants. The Thai Elephant Conservation Centre is prepared to take her in, but President Benigno Aquino is holding things up under the guise of ensuring Mali is well-enough to travel.

It's clear she won't last much longer is stays. The President needs to back off and let her find a safe home.

Demand a better future for the world's loneliest elephant.
Thank you for taking action,

Emily V.
