How Was the "Evolution Sucks" Meeting?

It was an interesting presentation. I think Dr. Dobson is correct in saying we must eventually improve our species genetically, but the path to that goal is strewn with obstacles and questions which must be answered, probably the biggest of which is who will make the changes and to what purpose? We will no doubt try to make ourselves almost infinitely more intelligent. Will that automatically make us more moral? Will we encourage morality by engineering less aggressive humans? What if others engineer for more intelligence and more aggressiveness? Let's hope that Dr. Dobson is right in characterizing us as "the Moses generation," which sees the Promised Land but can't go there. We could also turn out to be the Lemming generation which uses technology to effect changes we are not yet morally equipped to deal with. In the first case we will be enjoying Isaac Asimov's View From a Height. In the second case the view will be from the base of a cliff. --Dan
