4TH of July FEAST! 10 women who will make you happy about America again
Dan, I just opened up the link: WOW!! WOW!! WOW!!
I never knew all THAT about Alice Paul--& I have a book about her--but not read it all. I agree with the author--most formal education I've ever heard a person of either gender to have!
What a FEAST! for my WOMANSPIRIT!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
P. S. Even though women are not mentioned by gender in the Declaration of Independence (it says all MEN are created equal) -- or in the Constitution -- that's why women had to FIGHT for the right to vote--& won it when the Suffrage Amendment was ratified in 1920 -- & why we Still Need the Equal Rights Amendment (original author, Alice Paul) -- I STILL am Proud to be an American Woman -- and THUS will NOT ALLOW neanderthal, sexist, Republican-controlled U. S. House of Reps. MEN to defile MY body. I OWN MY body. Which was exactly American Women's Rights Hero Senator Wendy Davis's (Dem. TX) determination a week ago
when she stood for 13 hrs. & held off the Texas Republican MCP's (Male Chauvinist Pigs) with a solo, record-setting, filibuster -- protecting the rights of Texas women to control their own reproductive systems.

I met Shirley Chisholm ALSO while living in Chattanooga, TN. When she became the first WOMAN (as well as first African-American woman, it goes w/o saying) EVER to run for President of the United States in l972, I campaigned intensely for her. The local chapter of NOW (National Organization for Women) held a fundraiser for her at a public place & also at a NOW member's home. I too found her incredibly powerful, inspirational, dynamic, magnetic & courageous. She's definitely another of my "all-time heroes!"
It was my great pleasure to hear Shirley Chisholm speak, in the 1980's, at a Methodist Ministers & Mates weekend. I was in the first row, just a few feet from her. Wow! What a dynamic personality. You couldn't help but pay rapt attention to what she had to say. --Dan
