Re: [atheists-36] About Your 'Profile' Settings and Mailing List E-Mail Subjects

Where are the rules of e-mail etiquette shown?  I have wondered about what the rules are and if I am following them when I respond to others.   Since we consider ourselves Critical Thinkers, we must allow people to offer differing opinions and debate on issues, but within some guidelines to keep the discussion civil and respectful.

Subject: [atheists-36] About Your 'Profile' Settings and Mailing List E-Mail Subjects

Dear Members,
First of all, I want to thank all of those members who have been following the rules of e-mail etiquette when using our mailing list.
But..we still have some of you who have not.
***********
YOU are in control of your 'email notifications!
If you have not already done so take the time to read your 'PROFILE' page which gives you COMPLETE control of unwanted e-mail chatter from our group.
* Upper right hand corner of the front page 'My Profile'.
***********
DO NOT use our mailing list feature to send your political comments etc.. Remember this group is named Orlando Freethinkers & Humanists, not World News Network. If your messages are unrelated to humanism, religious, atheism, freethought and critical thinking etc.. DO NOT send them to our mailing list members.
Here's the e-mail I received from a member who quit recently:
"I want to say I respect and appreciate what you and the group are doing in Orlando for free thought.  Having a group and a place to gather to talk and share is critical in the community."

"With that said, I'm going to have to unsubscribe from the group.  The amount of barely tangentially related spam has gotten to be a real issue.  I don't subscribe to political action groups because of the volume of useless hyperbole and slippery-slope/post-hoc nonsense they present.  My hopes that this email group could avoid or address the senseless din was optimistic.  These emails are nothing of content greater than what I find in my spam folder.  The emails are not intended for discussion or remark, they are simply drips and drops of pre-packaged quips and rantings, and it's drowning out any hope for actual discussions."

Please DO NOT post any articles or opinions that are about unrelated subjects.
Thank you!
