Book Group followed by General Meeting

  • Aug 21, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Michael's rooftop

Discussion of our first book, "And The Ass Saw The Angel," by Nick Cave. For this meetup we will be reading and discussing only the Prologue. This will give you time to acquire the book and to get used to the dialect.

Steve has graciously posted some sound files of Nice Cave reading from the novel, and there is also a video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O9PyFnivKs

Another great group of interesting people. Thanks for coming out!

So...I'm here. I'm at a table overlooking Midtown, particularly tennis courts. This is a very nice rooftop.

There's a community lounge right next to the roof, so we can move in there if it rains. I've got you covered, literally! ;)

What if it rains (yes, I'm that guy)?

We'll be meeting on my roof in Hell's Kitchen (spectacular views of both Midtown and the Hudson!). The address is 515 W 52nd St. After entering the building, sign in on the guest sign-in sheet (it's a 'secure' building) and then take the elevator to the roof (press "CL"). After exiting the elevator on the CL level, follow the corridor around the corner and out onto the roof and look for us at a table on the Midtown side. Feel free to bring any drinks/snacks/food etc. but please note that the entire building is smoke free.

So I wasn't able to get a copy of the book. I've just had a really busy week. Since I can't participate in the discussion, should I still come by?

    August 21, 2014

    • Michael N.

Hi Sumon. Sure you should still come by. We won't only be talking about the book, and if nobody who shows up read the book, we won't be talking about the book at all! ;)

Kath and I cannot make it to the meetup this Thursday....getting Kayleigh to school is a daunting task.

I'd have to miss this one out. I would love catchup with you all on details.
I've been busy with the Gala and it's on the same day.

I have a buddy who works for Morbid Anatomy. I'll let him know that we're considering doing a meetup there and see what he thinks would be the coolest thing to go to.

Thanks for the suggestion, Corinne. Another member has also suggested Morbid Anatomy. The idea was to keep an eye out for an interesting event on their calendar, and then organize a Meetup around that.

Ok then I'll check for an interesting lecture and throw it out there.

Hi Michael, Thank you for reaching out. I'm sure you guys have been having a great time. Since I live in Jersey it's not always possible for me to make regular meetings and events. I am typically interested in darker musicians, but ironically, I have a particular distaste for Nick Cave. C'est la vie.

As far as music goes, I am in the same boat. I like the darker stuff, but not a fan of Nick Cave.

d it I do think I might have a meet up idea for the group. There is an exhibit/museum? in Brooklyn called Morbid Anatomy. I think it might be up our alley. I do believe the give lectures as well. Google it and see if its something the group would like to do. Looking forward to eventually seeing you guys.

I uploaded a group of excerpts from "And the Ass Saw the Angel" read by Nick Cave. Look for them in the "more" tab at the top of the web page. I think they will help you slip into the character of Euchrid Eucrow.

I also recommend listening to the Bad Seeds record "The Firstborn is Dead." Many of the songs are woven into the plot of the novel.
