**UPDATE 1/3/2011**  Today and for the next couple of weeks, we are opening up the group to new members for Cycle 5!  We are looking specifically for all parts, especially male members.  Please email gothamrockchoir@gmail.com now for more info and visit our page at www.gothamrockchoir.com!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How often are rehearsals?

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings for 2 hours at a rehearsal space in Manhattan from 7pm to 9pm. Please consider this time commitment before you choose whether or not you would like to join.

What kind of music do you perform?

GRC's repertoire consists of Rock, Pop, Soul and Motown hits from the 60s through today-- from Stevie Wonder to The Beatles to Queen to Coldplay and Green Day! It's the kind of music many people grew up listening to. For each concert, we'll learn an eclectic range of songs from different eras and genres.

Is this some kind of "religious" choir?

No. GRC is a secular choir with no affiliation with any religious organization or church of any sort, although we occasionally perform gospel-ish pieces. But we do that for the same reason that we perform any other kind of music: it's fun to sing.

Do I need to be a super-talented singer?

Nope. What you most need to be a good choir member is to love to sing, and an energy and passion both for the music and the choir itself. Even if the only singing you've ever done in your life has been in your shower, we can still use your voice. Singing is like any other skill, really--the more you do it, the better you'll get.

Do I have to read music?

No. We'll provide audio learning aids that assist the non-music reader. However, we also provide sheet music with your vocal part, which we use in rehearsals, so if you do happen to read music it's much easier to learn the repertoire. Bottom line: if you have a great or even just good singing voice and a good ear for music, you'll do fine.

How much does it cost to join?

Currently we ask for a nominal fee of $150 for a six-month cycle to cover the costs of rehearsal and performance spaces, music, etc.

What is the expected level of commitment?

--Coming to Rehearsal and Learning the Music. We have to learn a challenging repertoire so you must be committed to learning your part. Therefore we ask that if you join GRC, you make a commitment to attend all or most of the rehearsals, and work on the music in your spare time. --Getting an Audience Out to the Show. Choir members are also expected to help "fill the house" for our concerts. There's nothing better than performing for a full house of enthusiastic audience members!

What can I hope to get out of being a member of GRC?

First and foremost, membership in GRC will develop and strengthen your musical and performance abilities, giving you a new sense self-confidence. And don't underestimate the social benefits of being part of a group like GRC: you'll be part of a community of friendly, like-minded people all working towards a common goal.

How do I join?

Just send an email to GothamRockChoir@gmail.com and let us know you're interested. Let us know the vocal part you sing if you happen to know it (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass), whether you read music or not, play any instruments, etc. Include your contact information--email, phone #, etc. We'll be in touch with you shortly.
