Meet the Author in person of Answers for Aristotle.

Our own member, Massimo Pigliucci, has written (yet another!) book, Answers for Aristotle.  I tried to book Ari himself to discuss it, he was all scheduled up.  I plan this catch too in the near future.

In his lucid and earnest way, Massimo describes how we can take advantage of the scientific knowledge we have about ourselves and society, and achieve our goals through philosophical examination of what we learn and how we learn it.  This doesn't do justice to the whole book, which is very readable and lends itself well to discussion.

Massimo is a professor in the philosophy department at the City University of New York's Graduate Center. He was formerly a biology professor at Stony Brook University.

Join our discussions even if you have finished reading.  The SHSNY Book Club is free and open to all.  You can even get Massimo to autograph your own book, not to mention the opportunity  to buy one.

Coming Up April 4th, The Signal and the Noise:why so many predictions fail but some don't,   Nate Silver's startling work on statistics and prediction.  On May 2nd, The 10,000 Year Explosion: how civilization accelerated human evolution by Gregory Cochran and Henry Harpeding.(Brought  to our attention by Earle Bowers.)  On June 6, This Explains Everything: Deep, Beautiful and Elegant Theories of how the World Works, another Edge book, edited by John  Brockman.  The Edge Books are the wonderful brief essays of important ideas.

As my first ever meeting with fellow skeptics, I certainly enjoyed this talk with the author Mr. Pigliucci. Will add "Answers for Aristotles" to my future readings.

This is one of the rare times that I have read the book being discussed. I think it is one of the best books I have read in a long time.
