SUN - Sports Monster BEACH Volleyball College

Join us for our weekly series of clinics to take you through the game of beach volleyball. Come out every week for the whole experience or pick and choose weeks that have skills focuses that you are looking to improve/learn.

Classes are offered Tuesdays and Sundays at Montrose Ave Beach. Tuesday nights are 6:45-8:45 and Sundays are 5:00 - 7:00

For Summer 2014, our instructors are Noelle Bennett and Wes Brown. Both instructors received very positive reviews for spring indoor instruction. Noelle is the new Volleyball Program Manager, and played volleyball at the collegiate level.

Keep in mind that this is group instruction. There will be time for some one-on-one instruction and you definitely can and should ask questions to help you get going. But this is more of a social experience where you can put into play what you practice while interacting with others in a relaxed environment. Almost everyone signs up by themselves, so do not be too shy to come out!

We call it the Volleyball College because if you take the whole series, you will graduate to the next higher skill level. Each class is 2 hours in duration including - 10 minutes warm up, 90 minutes of instruction and 20 minutes of play.

Our goal is to provide you with quality one on one instruction in a group environment.

Each week, there is a specific skill focus. There will be other skills covered/reviewed but the most time will be spent on skills as follows:

Week 1: Fundamentals of Beach volleyball + Passing

Week 2: Setting (overhead) Technique and Passing/Setting Review

Week 3: Hitting Approach and technique and Setting Review

Week 4: Blocking/Net play and Hitting review.

Week 5: Serving and Defensive Positioning and Blocking/Net Play review

Week 6: Skills review - focus will be by majority vote!

Undergraduate classes are geared for Recreation players to Intermediate players.

Space is limited each week and pre-paid RSVP is required to attend. RSVP is open until a couple of hours before the event. You may pay for up to 3 people to attend when you RSVP.

Fee to attend is $12.50 paid in advance which is a BARGAIN for this type of program! Want to just come out last minute? If you see less than 20 rsvp's, walk up cash fee is $15 and is first come/first play basis. We cap each session at 20.

This meet-up will progress through the 6 week program. Attend as many as you would like and more than once a week if you want!

Montrose Ave beach is located at the lake and Montrose Ave. Note that there are big paid parking lots BUT these get filled, especially on weekends. So plan on CTA, bike, blade or hoofing it.
