"Engineering your DSL's" - Peter Bell

Groovy/DSL guru Peter Bell will be in town for the No Fluff Just Stuff conference in March, and has graciously volunteered to present to the group before the conference begins. He'll be discussing Domain Specific Languages, a powerful component of the Groovy/Grails experience:

"The easy part of implementing Domain Specific Languages is coding them. The hard part comes when you have to think about testing, documenting, evolving and providing appropriate editing interfaces for them.

In this session we'll go beyond the syntax and look at the real world engineering concerns for widespread use of a DSL and various proven strategies for building DSLs that will grow with your projects and work for your target users."

Hope to see you all there!

I thought the presentation was excellent. Peter gave a good overview of what a DSL is, what you would use them for. He also talked about what's important when you're thinking of creating one and what you have to think about if it's going to grow and evolve.

He said he sometimes creates one in a day. This made me sad because I now realize that I'm not very bright. Other than that I enjoyed it. Also, there was a dog.

Peter is hating on the SQL. Well, not really. But it is fun to twist his words like that.
