I have been a member of Lake Superior Freethinkers in Duluth for several years. I've enjoyed participating, but would like to start a similar group here in Grand Rapids so that I can interact with other freethinkers more frequently and avoid having to drive a long distance to do so.
The Grand Rapids Freethinkers will offer a place where those who are already freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and skeptics can find others who share a freethinker outlook and interests. It can also serve as an educational resource for those just beginning to explore secularism, freethought and atheism. The group will serve as a place to discuss ideas, books, videos and lots of other things. It will also explore ways to make freethinkers more visible and active in the community. Finally, it will seek ways to confront and respond to the encroachment of religion in our politics, schools and government.
Those who should join include both those who are already freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and skeptics, plus those who want to learn more about these topics and get support as they explore their own thoughts and feelings.
