Discuss Wordpress.com Kaggle data in Neo4j

  • September 10, 2012 · 6:30 PM

Last meetup there were a few suggestions for our next gathering:

1) Make the meeting earlier. I've scheduled this @ 6:30 pm, feedback is most welcome.

2) Load some real data into Neo4j so we can discuss practical applications, queries, challenges, and terminology in a concrete fashion.

In response to #2 I took a suggestion from Greg, of Automatic, and will be loading their Kaggle challenge data into Neo4j for us to look at:

http://www.kaggle.com/c/predict-wordpress-likes

This practical application will allow us to look at modeling, indexing, queries, traversals, etc. I will post the code to a GitHub repository and, if I have time, may load a Heroku instance with the data and the REST interface so people can play with the data.

We'll get some beer and snacks together this time!

This was great presentation. It had an agenda and it flowed very well. Others in the group add valuable comments to the discussion. I will be back.

Really appreciated seeing how to work with non-toy data in Neo4j.

Doh! I'm in San Diego that week. Any chance of delaying this? Feel free to go without me, though I'd love to see how you're using Neo4j.

9/20 is when the final winners will be announced, so it may also be interesting to talk about some of the better results.

Oh No! I'm hoping it will be an ongoing discussion. Also ping me before or after if you want to.

That Kaggle sounds supercool, would be great to get access to the dataset later, so other meetups can work on this, too!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
