Sunrise Peak from 145th Street - McDowell Mt. Preserve

8:00 am at the carpool location

8:30 am at the trailhead

This hike is short but strenuous.

Hike to the saddle or summit of Sunrise Peak in the south area of the McDowell Mt. Preserve. While there are multiple options to reach Sunrise Peak, we will start at the Sunrise Access Area off 145th Street and have a shorter but steeper hike to the summit.  We'll climb the Sunrise Trail up to the saddle and hikers will then have the choice to continue the addtional steep 1/4 mile trail to the summit.  You will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Scottsdale and Fountain Hills area.  Bring 2 liters or water, a hat and sturdy hiking shoes or boots.

DISTANCE: 4.0 miles

ELEVATION GAIN: 950 ft
DURATION: approximately 3 hours
TRAIL STYLE: In-and-out
FACILITIES: No Bathrooms or water

DIRECTIONS: From Via Linda and Frank Lloyd Wright in Scottsdale, head east to 145th street.  Turn left into the Parking lot.   If the lot is full, there is overflow parking in the horse trailer parking area.

    Hi All,

I thought today was a great hike -
Kathleen, great job in all of your planning. It was a different trail today for me and a great 'new' way to the top of Sunrise Peak!
