Joseph Conrad, "Heart of Darkness"

Dark allegory describes the narrator's journey up the Congo River and his meeting with, and fascination by, Mr. Kurtz, a mysterious personage who dominates the unruly inhabitants of the region. Masterly blend of adventure, character development, psychological penetration. Considered by many Conrad's finest, most enigmatic story.

Good discussion. I could still discuss more, but I had to leave to walk the dog before it was too dark. Sorry if I broke up the "flow of reason"
Teatsy, please don't forget to give a jingle.

Thanks Aaron. So how was it? Did Kurtz in fact speak his fiancee's name with his last breath?

Got lost. A kind person from another group sent me back here. What version are we reading. I was going to read it as an e book and learned that there are two versions, which do I want? Would like to say thanks to the person who helped me.

Am I missing something? I was under the impression Heart of Darkness was an English novel.

Hey Aaron, this is off topic, but can you tell me how to add info to my profile? I feel like I have a complicated game with no instructions.:(

I have been enjoying the tape I am reading. Very well done. The symbolism is complex. I think I need to recall the sequence and then go back. Haven't met Kurtz yet. The trick of flipping, from past present ,way past before marlow begins his narrative, makes me wonder.

    Some information needed:
Is the group a non smoking group. I am very allergic to smoke and cannot participate if people in the group are smokers. I am even sensitive to people with smoke on their clothes :0! This is not a criticism of anyone, just a serious problem that I have. Thanks for a response.

I read the book as a teenager- loved Conrad and Kipling. I remember a guy barefooted in a suit- I will be interested in finding why Conrad was sneering about him. The guy really was a racist. What is the cross street on Colorado? Is is the group non smoking?
