Poetry, short stories, plays, novels, history, philosophy, science, not necessarily in that order, classics that are worthy of discussion, current and past, western and non-western, these are the works we discuss. The discussion is what is most important. We discuss these works to enlarge our understanding of the ideas that shape our culture and gain a deeper appreciation for what it means to be human.

Apologies to members of the Great Books Discussion Group of San Francisco Noe Valley for the lack of use of this Meetup site, but we have been very busy and very successful at starting new Great Books discussion groups.  Five years ago there was one GB group in the City and now we have nine.  Hence the change in the name of this Meetup site.  We will start posting meeting information for all of our groups over the next several months.  In order to avoid having too many meetings on one site we have divided SF into East and West with the dividing line being Masonic Avenue.  Once established, we will provide easy links to access both sites.  We will post discussions for Noe Valley here and on the East site for the next two months.  After that all postings for Noe Valley will be on the East site only.

Looking forward to seeing you at a Great Books Discussion Group soon,

Jim Hall

Meetup has allowed me to meet people I wouldn't have met naturally - they're totally different than me.
