Discuss "Sorrow Acre" by Isak Dinesen aka Karen Blixen

Hi Everyone,

Two items:

1.  Jan. 9, 2013, we will be discussing Isak Dinesen's short story, "Sorrow-Acre".  Cliff Louie will lead the discussion.

If you do not have the book we are using, you may have to go to the library to obtain the short story.  I could not find a website that has it.

2.  Finally, an update on the S.F. Great Books Mini-Retreat.  The Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 event is sold out.  The Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 event has 20 open spots.  More information and registration info are available here:  http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=yruml4bab&oeidk=a07e6mlokp25524ae4c It promises to be a fun day with full of stimulating discussions.

In the morning, we will discuss the novel, Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. In the afternoon, we will view and discuss the movie (based on the novel).

Lionel Shriver, winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction, said, "I can't think of a better novel to pass on [to the next generation].  The movie critic, Roger Ebert, gave the movie (starring Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet) four starts out of four, calling the film "so good it is devastating".

One last note - Revolutionary Road was a finalist for the National Book of the Year in 1964.  Guess who beat it out?  Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.

Hope to see you at the Noe Valley Branch Library on Jan. 9.  Happy Holidays.

This non-profit educational activity is sponsored by the Noe Valley Library and the Great Books Council of San Francisco (www.greatbooks-sf.com).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
