Salt by Mark Kurlensky (Geographical/Travel Selection)

This is the big HPB location on Northwest Highway, between 75 and Shady Brook Ln. We meet at a table outside the cafe. When you enter the store- this is to the right.

In his fifth work of nonfiction, Mark Kurlansky turns his attention to a common household item with a long and intriguing history: salt. The only rock we eat, salt has shaped civilization from the very beginning, and its story is a glittering, often surprising part of the history of humankind. A substance so valuable it served as currency, salt has influenced the establishment of trade routes and cities, provoked and financed wars, secured empires, and inspired revolutions.

I'm coming. But GOD am I the only one who could not for the life of me get through this book? I guess history is just not my thing....

Agreed! I had to do a lot of skimming. I guess there was more to salt than I thought.

Last minute 'Auntie duties', so can't make the meet up. I enjoyed the book overall, but it was very hard to get to the finish....
