Action: Divergent by Veronica Roth

New venue: The Truck Yard. This is an outdoor venue, and weather is predicted to be nice. There are several food truck options and drinks available (no coffee this month). It may be difficult to find us, anyone who arrives first, please try to get a large table, and have the book out so that others can find us. Thanks!

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

She had some great passages of writing, and it overall an entertaining (though slightly generic) story.

Pretty much, haha. The endless "...but four would never like me" (shut up, he is obviously hitting on you) stuff grated on me... also they really solved the war awfully fast.

:( I read the book and am excited about the meet up. .. and then woke up sick/had to call into work, ugh! I don't believe I will make it. My apologies for the late notice. I'm bummed, believe me.

Maybe we can have a followup meetup for anyone who wants to read the remaining 2 in the series. Hope you feel better!

Soory guys, I am finishing grad school this may (MBA) and they seem to be in a rush to cram even more assignments in the remaining 4 or so weeks. Got the book, read it, liked it (mostly) but would not be able to make to this meet up. Next time!

I enjoyed the book (and the movie to which this article refers), but agree with some of the lackluster aspects of the story she brings up here: http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2014/03/24/293732408/not-so-divergent-the-cookie-cutter-nonconformist

Where will this meetup be? I have the book and work at a theatre that will open the film. I believe in March, not April
