World Book Night

Q. What is World Book Night?

A. World Book Night is an annual celebration dedicated to spreading the love of reading, person to person.  Each year on April 23, tens of thousands of people in the U.S. go out into their communities and give a total of half a million free World Book Night paperbacks to light and non-readers.

I unfortunately did not know of this event before now. Having applied to be one of the volunteers to pass out books, I got to select three titles from a list of thirty that I would like to pass out. If they accept my application, they will send me twenty books to give out to adults that night.

I say, let's pass out copies of atheist books! If everyone could pick up a couple of new copies of their favorite atheist book, we could get together and give them to folks. Why not?

Not sure of a location yet. It can't be at a retail setting, although outside a tattoo parlor might be interesting.

I had a great time with Julie and Julian. It didn't take us long to pass out our books. Everyone was very polite to us. No one gave us a hard time about our "atheist" books. We went to the bus stop on Erie and Madison, about the time everyone was catching the bus to go home from work.

For carpooling, I'll meet people behind Panera's as usual.
