This is a very quirky Sunday outing. It’s a huge flowering vine that was planted over a hundred years ago. In fact it is the largest flowering vine in the world. At its peak, the vine had as many as 1.5 million blooms, weighed 250 tons, and covered more than an acre of ground. It has spread into neighboring backyards. This is so California to have a festival around this plant. To reduce traffic you have to buy a shuttle bus ticket for entry to view the vine. In the town of the Sierra Madre is the festival, selling everything purple and flowery. Many people wear purple to the event.
