A Pilates Walk in Friston Forest - The forest floor awakens!

The walk will focus on feet - how we can connect more consciously through the feet to the ground and how waking up the feet can re-energise and re-organise the whole body, improving posture, sense of balance, agility and coordination.

The walk will take us through Friston Forest past the village of Westdean and further on, staying mostly but not exclusively on the footpath as there are some lovely detours to explore away from the beaten track. We will be mostly along the flat but there is a short steeper section both up and down towards the end of the walk and depending on the weather some parts of the footpath may be muddy and slippery so appropriate footwear is a must!

Please warm wear layers of clothing (a waterproof outer layer if forecast is rainy, sensible footwear and bring a drink)

If you are new to exercise or have a medical condition or an injury, in the interest of your well-being please be guided by your GP or health practitioner's advice before joining an activity with this group and if you have any queries don't hesitate to get in touch in confidence.

Each event will be as unique and variable as the weather, changing seasons, route and company! I hope you will find it fun, enriching and memorable. It definitely won't be the same without you!

Cost: This event is offered on a donation basis to allow as much accessibility as possible. Donations in the region of £5 which will be collected at the end of the walk.

Booking: RSVP/Advance booking required as places will be limited. If you are unable to attend please do let us know as early as possible so that someone else may be able to take up the place.

Parking in Exceat car park costs £2/3 so it's handy to have coins at the ready as this isn't included. In case of extremely inclement weather the walk may be postponed/rescheduled. If you using public transport the no. 12/12A bus is just seconds away over the road.

Directions:

By car from Brighton or Seaford heading along A259 in direction of Eastbourne, down the hill, over the Cuckmere river at the Golden Galleon pub, next Left into Litlington Rd, car park next right. From Eastbourne at bottom of hill by the Cuckmere meanders turn right into Litlington Road (just past the Seven Sisters Visitor's centre), car park directly on right.

By Bus no. 12 / 12A Exceat stop on the Brighton/Eastbourne route.

The walk will start off and finish at the Exceat car park behind the Seven Sisters Country Park Visitor Centre.

Additional Info: Exceat Farmhouse Restaurant is near the car park that we set off from and finish at - it's not part of the schedule but if you're feeling peckish after all that fresh air it's maybe an option. There are also picnic tables nearby.

Hi all, thanks for venturing out into the forest together yesterday. The forest was strangely still and quiet as snow filled the air but we got warm walking, exercising and breathing - really got the circulation moving which felt so good! It was great to feel a connection with the ground and with the trees - their strength and stillness - and to share the experience with each other - it was fun! I hope you enjoyed it too.

The forest is about as bare as it can be for April but there are candle-like buds on the ends of shoots and leaves about to unfurl - as soon as the temperature rises there'll be no holding it back. But for now the snow keeps on falling and chill winds bite... I hope you're keeping warm, active and well.

It was great meeting you all. Looking forward to doing this again soon!

Some people have asked about the donation -ie. what's an acceptable amount etc. This event is offered on a donation basis to allow as much accessibility as possible. It isn't a free event and past pilates walks have been priced at £8. However, as an introductory offer I’m suggesting donations in the region of £5 which will be collected at the end of the walk. Thanks for your queries. Hope this offers clarity. Also maybe worth mentioning is the Exceat Farmhouse Restaurant which is next to the car park that we set off from and finish the walk - just in time for lunch or a hot choc!

Hi.. I was wondering what sort of suggested donation, I've joined a few MeetUp groups and donations have varied between £5 or so to cover expenses and £20 which is similar to a therapy or tuition fee. Thank you.. the walk looks interesting.

How long ie time or distance do you think you will cover please? and what sort of donation are you looking at? thanks

      Hi Sandy,
The walk is just 2 hours so it's quite short in distance approx 3&1/2 miles, combining walking and standing pilates exercises. I have charged in the past but this time asking for donation - suggest around £5. Also worth mentioning Exceat Farmhouse Restaurant which is next to the car park that we set off from and finish the walk - just in time for lunch or a hot chocolate! Hope you can come!
      Karen :-)
