MoJoe's Trailside Coffee (map)
Charlies Bunion Hike, Take 2.
This hike is also being hosted by River Sports Outfitters.
We will be taking the AT north from the New Found Gap Parking lot up to Charlies Bunion. On the way we will stop off and check out the views from The Jump Off. When we get to Charlies Bunion we will stop for a lunch break and photos. After lunch we will hike back to the cars and return to Knoxville, getting us back to town before 6pm. This is a great trail, and a very popular one in the park. Along the way we will pass several trail junction, including the Boulevard trail leading out to Mt. LeConte, and Sweat Heffer trail which leads down the mountain on the North Carolina side. Or hike will also take us directly behind the Ice Water Springs shelter. The views from Charlies Bunion are considered some of the most impressive in the park and the outcropping allows for views to the north, east, and west. The trail in will consist of some easy to moderate up hill hiking, as well as plenty of level ridge walking and some down hill as we approach Ice Water Springs and Charlies Bunion. We won't be getting in a hurry, so anyone moderately active should not have a problem with this hike.
For Car pooling, we will be meeting at MoJoe's Trailside Coffeehouse at 9am. MoJoe's is located directly in front of River Sports Outfitters on Sutherland Ave. From there we will drive to the parking lot at New Found Gap and regroup for the hike.
Because this hike is being hosted in conjunction with River Sports Outfitters, you will need to call the store and make sure you are signed up for the hike with them as well. If you like, I can do this for you but you will need to send me a message letting me know you first and last name and email address. The number for River Sports is [masked].
Melissa, there is a bit of up hill to this hike, but it isn't that bad. As long as you are comfortable walking for a mile or two, then you shouldn't have any trouble.
OK, so we will be meeting at Panera Bread instead. Sorry for the mix up, but this hike was originally going to happen on a Saturday and MoJoe's isn't open on Sundays. The address of Panera is 4855 Kingston Pike
Knoxville, TN 37919
I'll be at a table out front. email me if you have any questions.
Thanks NICK
Can you give me a best guess on when you will reach the Newfound gap parking area.
I will be meeting you there
Thanks again for letting me go on this hike last minute. I really had a lot of fun and can't wait until the next one!! It won't let me rate the hike because I wasn't on the RSVP list. :(
Katherine, I'm glad you got to join us for the hike, and I'm glad you enjoyed the hike. I fixed your RSVP so you should be able to rate the hike now.
Rob, thanks for coming along and helping out by taking point. It was good hiking with you again.

Is this hike suitable for a naive virgin hiker and newbie to the group apparently looking for a new adventure?
